This movie went a bit too slow for me, but overall, it was a good film. Made me cry a couple times when soem horrific things happened to the horse. But it was genuinely a well written story and Begley, Jr. is always a solid actor. The man is one of the greats of his era, as his Oscar winning father was a great in his. Tab Hunter did a great job with a small part. But his greatest film is: Track of the Cat.

The reason I bought this movie is first the title and second I like Bon Jovi. I will buy anything with vampires and thought it would be interesting to see Bon Jovi in a horror movie. I was wrong the two do not go together. Silly premise, silly ending and less than stellar acting. If you are looking to be frightened, then this is not for you. If you like anything Vampires with Bon Jovi thrown in, you might want to keep this for your amusement.

VHS : Lost Highway
I disagree with the opening line of the Amazon Editorial review which says "Plot is a meaningless term when trying to describe Lost Highway". Frankly that's the answer for lazy people who don't like thinking as part of their movie-watching. [SPOILER (kinda) ALERT] The plot is an answer to a question: How do people deal with a reality so horrific they can't face it?

Also, if you've never seen a David Lynch film, you'll see that the anngles, the colors, the elements and scale in the shots, are all part of his mood setup and are jsut as important to what he's going for as the story is.

VHS : First Love Last Rites
It is hard to see past the frequent bouts of lovemaking that the two main characters engage in. And that may be why some viewers have a hard time with this film. Though the (...) scenes are central to the plot, that's not all this film is about. And I have to say, as far as (...) scenes go, these are well-filmed. They are realistic without being (....) Joe and Sissel are teenagers growing into adults. Their passion, through fits and starts, grows into love. Slowly, each learns about responsibility and failure. Some viewers may wonder about Sissel's strange behavior, just as Joe does. But I think she's bearing the brunt of her parents' recent break-up and her little brother's trouble with the broken family. All the while, Sissel's parents act frequently like children. I couldn't figure out why Joe, ... Read More

Certainly not a classic in film history, this film nonetheless is very humorous throughout in a very silly manner. From the folks who gave us "Airplane", sight gags are front and center and provide some nice time away from the reality that drains us all.

VHS : Substitute (1993)
I love the original SUBSTITUTE pictures with Tom Berenger and even all the lousy sequels. So I was prepared to pout when this one popped on my TV, thinking, I wonder if they are now going to have a female version of Tom Berenger? But no, this movie is cut from different cloth. It's still great. Watching it you feel like you've stumbled into some sort of previously unknown Brian De Palma movie. And Amanda Donohue, who never really impressed m,e before, save in her fearlessness in taking off her clothes for Ken Russell movies, is really wonderful in the part of Gayle Richardson, an ordinary school teacher in Albany (upstate New York) whose life goes topsy-turvy on her 10th wedding anniversary, when she discovers a strip of film in the breast pocket of her husband's blue sports jacket. Four photo booth pictures of ... Read More

VHS : Stranger Than Fiction (1999)
well it is safe to say that I survived this movie but I didnt quite like it all that much. there were things about it that were just too blah. Dina Meyer(Starship Troopers, Johnny Mnemonic) is the hottie in this movie. Todd Field(Eyes Wide Shut, Twister) is the cool guy in this movie. Mackenzie Astin(Sean Astin's brother) is the crazy guy in this movie and Natasha Gregson Wagner(Modern Vampires, Another Day In Paradise) is the annoying one in this movie. Field has written a book called Stranger Than Fiction and he tells the tale to a man at a bar. Astin murders a gay police officer and things go downhill from there. It just spirals into twists that are far too perdictiable but some funny, like the hobo in the back of the car. The old lady had the funniest death of them all. If your a fan of any of the actors you should ... Read More
