I enjoyed "The Comrades of Summer." It had better baseball than a lot of sports movies, and the characters were engaging and entertaining. The situation of a hotshot manager who is brought down to earth by his own greed and over-reaching is a cautionary tale for all of us who think the world is our oyster. Having a railroad track running through your practice field's infield gives new meaning to the term "bad hop." I thought this was very funny stuff.

If you were around prior to the fall of the Soviet Union them you may remember how eastern European and Russian women were depicted. The image of the East German female weightlifter who would put the Rock or Arnold Schwarzenegger to shame comes to mine. What made this movie interesting is that it was one of the first times where you could see Soviet women depicted as women, as well as the crushing poverty that many still face in the Former Soviet Union. If you are considering meeting and dating foreign women online then this is a recommended film for you. Not so much as a cautionary talk but rather as an eye opener. Cheers!

Okay, It isn't a box office Hit! That said, It is an enjoyable film if you want to be entertained. It is a thriller with some quirky comedy and some fantastic views of Moscow and its environs. You go with the main character as he tries to figure out what is happening. Can anyone really take Frank Whaley seriously as a romantic lead? In this he sort of pulls it off though. You do sort of feel for him with all the trouble he gets mixed up in in the film. Natalia Nagoda is great. There are alot of quirky characters and events in this film. If you are familiar with the Russian mindset you can appreciate this movie. Just go into it with a not too serious attitude. If you want Dr. Zhivago then watch it instead. It is a Roman Polanski film. I don't think he takes himself too seriously, but he is a great director. ... Read More
