VHS : Bad Seed
When asked the movie from childhood I remember best, this is the one. The Birds, The Blob,
even Baby Jane and Sweet Charlotte did not have the impact of Patty McCormack's stellar performance in this movie. Maybe after seeing it was when I became terrified of going in our farmhouse basement...and lightning.
Perhaps it even influenced my interest in mental illness and led me to work 20 yrs. in a state mental hospital!
I watched it as an adult and was still captivated by the quality of the performances as well as the B&W photography. A must see.

VHS : Stanley & Livingstone
Lost in the flood of great films in Hollywood's greatest year (1939), Stanley and Livingstone pays more attention to historical fact than most so-called history films of that era.

Of especial interest is the footage shot in Kenya by among others, the famous Osa Johnson. The African landscape and peoples shot by this second unit crew raise S&L far above the usual Tarzanesque studio back lot scenes that supposedly depict Africa (always jungle in those days, never veldt or mountains). Supervised by one Captain A. J. Klein, the actions shots involving actual Kenyans easily surpasses the competent and workmanlike Hollywood work of director Henry King.

The attack by outraged locals (lots of Samburu and Maasai hired for the occasion, I would guess) on Stanley's expedition, who believe ... Read More

VHS : Corporation
THE CORPORATION has a good idea but it's not done very well at all. Ian Ziering stars as Darren Danvers, an up and coming video game designer, who has recently been hired by an upper scale corporation. They pay him in the six figures, give him his own car, a house, and all the perks that go with such a valuable position. Katherine Kelly Lang is his wife, who wants to finish getting her PHd, something the other wives at the corporation think the company will frown upon. Andrew Stevens heads up the corporation, and it isn't long before we realize there's something going on here. Seems like subliminal messages are being put on a new game that will encourage all owners to rush out and buy its upgrade. To test this subliminal text, they do some pretty bizarre things to the members of the corporation as well. ... Read More

"Why did a sniper kill innocent victims in June 1966 Texas? Why were over 7,000 Americans slain or wounded by gunfire in 1968? Why was there no effective gun control law in 1968? This movie sheds a little light on a dark and deep topic." You can't say they didn't warn you!

This film begins on a dark and stormy night. The baron enters a cellar to look into a coffin. Violence follows, the film ends. Its only a low-budget movie. Byron Orlok is an old film star, he is retiring. We see the real events in the movie world. Outside a young man buys a rifle and ammunition. His trunk is packed with pistols, rifles, and shotguns, as if to make a point. Bobby eats a candy bar and drives along the highways of Los Angeles. He arrives at a home that is like a TV drama about middle-class life.

Byron gets ... Read More

VHS : To the Shores of Tripoli
Okay, Okay - by modern standards, this film is very hokey. A real flag-waver that gets cheesier as it progresses. But I love the on-screen combination and chemistry of Maureen O'Hara and John Payne. Their first of 4 films together, this movie was actually being film when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in December 1941. The script and ending were quickly changed to reflect the headlines and the sentiment of the day. The film was rushed in to theaters within a few months of completion and became a big poster for enlistment.
Most modern audiences know Payne and O'Hara from the Christmas classic, "Miracle on 34th Street", which is their third pairing. Their second ("Sentimental Journey" ) and forth ("Tripoli", a Paramount release) are not available on either VHS or DVD - what a shame.

Stumbled across this movie in the wee hours of one morn somewhere around 1986 (i think) hilarious movie.. well put together... guaranteed for some great laughs.. not a kid movie... definitely some nudity... it's a movie i never get tired of watching... it's definitely one of my 'classics'

kinda dry 'british' humor... but see for yourself and just might get addicted like me ;-)

Just imagine, one day your penis starts talking to you - giving you its points of view, opinions, complaints, suggestions, and teaching you life lessons. Well, I most certainly can not but I thought that the idea was interesting. The movie is a loose adaptation of great Alberto Moravia's novel (notable adaptations of his novels include Vittorio De Sica's "Two Women" (1960), based on "La Ciociara", Jean-Luc Godard's" Contempt: (1963), from "Il Disprezzo", and Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Conformist" (1970), from the book of the same name) and I thought that it was funny. Occasionally...

The movie won a Golden Screen award in 1988 - which is presented to the distributors of domestic and foreign feature films - including documentary and children films - with more than 3,000,000 admissions within 18 months since their ... Read More

Though the lighting and overall atmospheric quality in the movie lack a certain quality, Joy Kelly comes forward as an actor with an amazing amount of class. Her portrayal of Roberta holds a ring of truth to a quiet woman who truly knows her sexuality without the flamboyance of some of the other characters. This is an actor who deserves many more expansive roles. The other characters seem much more like caricatures. It carries a fairly simple romance plot which could have been delved into deeper and some of the characters more explored. I believe if the quality of the lighting and filming was stronger this would stand as a a fine gay film. As it stands it will be a fine television film.
