Relentlessly sad and painful but also sweet and funny and somehow hopeful. It's universal theme of change and ability to adapt to change can be applied to the stages of life in individual lives, in industry, in cultures and in countries. The theme song "The Good Times Are Coming," sung by Mama Cass is the greatest example I've ever seen of how music can elevate and accentuate the theme and tone of a movie. Thank goodness for the TCM channel, which makes movies like this available to those who would otherwise never have the opportunity to experience them.

I absolutely love this movie and I am so happy that I found it here on Amazon. My mother owns the copy I grew up watching as well as the sound track so now I have to buy my own. I grew up with this movie and have always loved it and the gorgeous music that adds to the already beautiful story. I recommend it to everyone and anyone who loves family movies and beautiful music!

I would reconsider ordering a used video again; acturlly, probably never again! The first part was way too bright and light and the second part was too dark in several sections of the movie. If this movie becomes available new I would reorder it. Thank you- Margaret Weaver

VHS : Robert Kennedy & His Times
Brad Davis gives an uncannily believable and realistic performance as Robert Kennedy in this sentimental but mostly accurate film that does a great deal to capture both RFK and the spirit and political climate of the 1960's. A great film for anyone who needs a flavor for the man, or the times in which he lived.

G.D. Spradlin puts in a strong performance as Lyndon Johnson, whom the Kennedys viewed as an illegitmate usurper in the wake of JFK's assassination -- the tension between the two camps is faithfully recreated. Ned Beatty is passable as the Kennedy-hating J. Edgar Hoover, but Jack Warden and Cliff de Young are horribly miscast as Joe Kennedy, Sr. and JFK, respectively. Warden frankly doesn't look the part and fails to convey the domineering influence Old Joe had over his sons ... Read More

6.Of Mice and Men starring: Robert Blake, Randy Quaid, Lew Ayres, Mitch Ryan, Ted Neeley

VHS : Of Mice and Men
This Robert Blake as George and Randy Quais as Lenny film version is excellent for comparative analysis of novel and film.
Several added scenes provide fodder for commentary on creative license and director's intent. Elimination of any swearing in the film alters George's character to a more sympathetic one and giving Curley's wife an actual name and some added scenes adds a female perspective to the loneliness of laboring males. Sprawling western vistas and primarily outdoor footage give a sense of Steinbeck's California setting.

VHS : Danielle Steel's Star
_Star_ is a beautiful movie that can be seen before or after reading the book. The characters are chosen perfectly and the acting is beautiful. However, the chemistry between characters is not what is should be. The actor that plays Spencer Hill has more chemistry with the woman he was tricked into marrying than he does with Crystal, his true love. This video tells the story of Crystal Wyatt, a shockingly stunning true country girl who loves her ranch and Spencer Hill, a handsome veteran of the Korean War who does not like to let anyone down, which the reason why this story ever happens in the first place. The singing in this movie is splendid, as well; it put tears into my eyes. This is my favorite movie and I recommend it full-heartedly.

VHS : Electra Glide in Blue
I had seen parts of this before, but watched the whole thing through today. I must say, as great as parts of this film are, it nevertheless disappoints on many crucial levels. The acting, (while largely cheesy) is enjoyable in a pic like this. I do enjoy Robert Blake's performance though, even though Detective Harvey is WAAAY over the top!! (the coroner guy was very good also). I definitely see a link to "Easy Rider", and indeed, both films represent a (then) new wave of modern western, even maybe similar in some ways to Peckinpah's "Wild Bunch" and "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia". Actually, as powerful a film as Easy Rider is, I don't think it's a very good film either. But like Elecra Glide, it does invoke that new "take to the highway" consciousness of the counterculture of the early 70's. And ... Read More

Liar Liar starring Jim Carrey was another hit for the mega star. His pyshical comedy is evident in this comedy, he just knows how to work his face and body. This film isn't perfect but it's fun and harmless. Enjoy!
