A beautiful film about the power of love to transform people. This is one of the best movies ever made and I cannot for the life of me understand why it is not available on DVD in the U.S.

By the time Jack Nicholson shows up for about five minutes of screen time as Garrett Breedlove, this turgid 1996 sequel to 1983's Terms of Endearment has already slogged through two deaths, a psychotherapist with an Oedipal complex, and a lot of scrapbooks. The problems with this shamelessly manipulative movie are many, and they all begin with the inevitable premise that tough Texas matron Aurora Greenway can carry on without being challenged by her feisty daughter Emma. However, without Debra Winger's earthy grit counterbalancing Shirley MacLaine's flamboyant disapproval, the story seems to work in a vacuum. Much of the appeal and resonance of the first film came from how these characters dealt with life's unpredictable course and how James L. Brooks captured their idiosyncrasies with a refreshing ... Gerard Butler's singing made me cringe. Actually, he didn't sing as much as shout in a role that demands an excellent tenor. It killed a movie for me that otherwise was very good. You can do Professor Harold Hill with a non-singer but not the Phantom. Patrick Wilson did a fine job as Raoul. Emma Rossum had youth and innocence applicable to the role, and her singing is passable but immature, not surprising given that she was 18 when she made it. That Webber picked her personally shocks me since there are better singers. Throughout the movie I longed to hear Sarah Brightman but not as much as I wanted to hear Michael Crawford.

I thought the artistry was great in this movie, but it's definitely not for youngsters who like claymation. The subject content was pretty morbid, even though the movie ends positively. I was kind of shocked that it was so violently suggestive - it was scary, and I'm an adult. I felt uncomfortable, which is why I don't watch it that often. After seeing this, I am much happier watching his other works like "Wallace and Gromit", which is far more suitable for children.

It really is too bad that it took so long for Robert Duvall to make this movie as I thought he was a too old for his part. At the beginning, I honestly thought those were his GRANDCHILDREN and June Carter Cash was his wife. (Alot of Southern men call their wives "Momma": annoying but true). Duvall plays a VERY VERY flawed haracter. Several reviewers would have you believe that he is somehow "redeemed" at the end. Really? Because he so-called saves Billy Bob Thorntons character and that other young man? Give me a break! Speaking of BBT, he gives an extremely wooden performance, even worse than the too low-key Farrah. The preaching throughout this movie can be spellbinding but the last sermon Duvalls character gives is way too long and how come no one in the congregation notices ... Read More

For some reason there is a huge circle of film snobs (cinaphiles, movie buffs) who absolutely hate this film. I can understand to an extent, but not seeing the films central glistening facet is to ignore what is right in front of your eyes. Yes, even the vilest of movie critics; even someone who detests everything that is so Hollywood about Steven Spielberg will tell you that Christian Bale delivers quite possibly the finest child acting performance of all time.

That said; I don't hate this movie.

The film tells the story of young Jamie Graham, a twelve-year-old British boy living with his family in China. During World War II Jamie is separated from his family and finds himself in an interment camp struggling to survive in a world that was once so familiar but is now so strange. ... Read More

D-day had failed. Kennedy is president, Joseph sr. that is, not John. Hitler is about to celebrate his 75th birthday. That was all the exposition I needed. It's springtime for Hitler in Germainia. We lost. It is the early 60's & the cold war has taken a hard left turn from what we know happen. The Germans are still fighting the Russians. Hitler wants a peace treaty with The United States. It is about to happen. President Kennedy is coming to Berlin & bringing a lot of reporters. One problem: the Final Solution, what we now know as the Holocaust has never been made public. Any living officials with first hand knowledge are being bumped off. One of these murders becomes public & has to appear to be investigated. I like weird movies, I like bad movies. But I do not like TERRIBLE movies, and that is what you have here.
The plot if there is one sounds like it was made up while two guys were in a druken stuper. The acting is terrible, and there is NO entertainment value what so ever. Can we give it a minus 1?
