VHS : The Disappearance of Garcia Lorca
This was one of the best movies I have seen. The flashback technique was somewhat like Mulholland Drive, but the viewer was allowed to achieve total understanding at the end. (Although it might take a couple of viewings to really understand.) Every actor and scene contributed to the mystery which gradually illuminated complicated political, social, artistic, and psychological truths in the search for the answer to a seemingly simple question. The acting was fantastic as were the music and the settings, and the dialogue. Each complimented the other. There was some gestalt in the ending and Andy Garcia's portrayal of Lorca was courageous, sad, intelligent, and sensitive. It definitly inspires a second or third viewing, purchase of the soundtrack and Llorca's poetry. Also politcally pertinent ... Read More

VHS : Guardian (1990)

I saw this movie in the 90's on TV. It's a very stilish horror fantasy, by far superior to "Cat People" (1982). Good story, great performances of Jenny Seagrove and Dwier Brown and astonishing visuals.
One of the main elements of this movie was the ill atmosphere, the mistery that was surrounding the entire plot, which reminded me of Stephen King's "Sleepwalkers" (1992).
Another good element that increased the gore and the suspense was the fact that we do know nothing about the origins of this ancient supernatural force.
You mustn't miss this amazing movie!!!

It is one of those movies to watch when you have a Short-Attention-Span day. Don't analyze, just enjoy the occasional silly joke. And do not worry if you miss any part of the movie. You get used to it, it seems better the 2nd time.

follow along on a 2.5 hour trip through the mind of Lynch, who enjoys being strange just to be strange. why are we subjected to the first half hour of nonsense?

As a fan of the TV series I enjoyed seeing a much darker side of LeLand Palmer then we saw in the TV series. Ray Wise delivers a strong performance. Sorry not to see Lara Flynn Boyle as Donna, her replacement was not even close.

VHS : Night Flier
I love horror, I enjoy Stephen King's tales, and even enjoy most of the film adaptations (yes....I liked "Maximum Overdrive"). "Night Flier" seems to have all of the pieces in place to be a great horror film, but for some reason it just doesn't quite come together. The idea of a vampire flying around the country to all these podunk air fields, offing his victims is a neat idea. I also liked the idea that only a tabloid along the lines of "The Weekly World News" is onto the vampire's game and sends out their seasoned and cynical reporter to find him. The entire idea of the film is pretty innovative and give a nice twist on a tired horror genre.
I think where things fell apart for me was in the character of Richard Dees played by Miguel Ferrer. Ferrer is great as the sarcastic and evil henchman. I loved his work in "The ... Read More

VHS : Valentino Returns
Scripted by Leonard Gardner, who grew up in California's agricultural San Joaquin Valley, this film successfully reaches its target of depicting components of small town life in the city of Stockton and its environs, where most of the filming took place. Set in the mid-1950s, the work stars Frederic Forrest and Veronica Cartwright as a couple whose marriage is falling apart, and Barry Tubb as their son and owner of the title vehicle. It is a new pink Cadillac coupe, and Tubb as Wayne Gibbs hopes that word of his ownership will spread and make him more attractive to the opposite sex. Wayne's shabby treatment at the hands of Sylvia, a local strumpet (Jenny Wright) naturally serves to bind the two more closely as the story progresses. Most of the action occurs during one eventful Saturday night with Wayne and his sleazy sidekick ... Read More
