Let's face it--most people (not all) want to see this, to see the beautiful and extraordinarily talented Yma Sumac. She is included in the cast credits (even touted) yet she is in it all of a few seconds. I agree with the other reviewer, she was featured no more than an any extra. And other than her, the movie isn't so interesting. What is somewhat ironic about this, is that Sumac's only other U.S. film, "Secret of the Incas" is not at all interesting except for her parts, as well! In truth, it was she, not Paramount, who decided she would do no more films.

.So I was watching the last lines of the movie "The universe grows smaller every day, and the threat of aggression by any group, anywhere, can no longer be tolerated. There must be security for all, or no one is secure. Now, this does not mean giving up any freedom, except the freedom to act irresponsibly"...and I'm thinking OBAMA has landed!

Henry Koster directed many films with considerable charm and flair... His attempts at drama were for the most part less successful but always visually pleasant... He was nominated for an Academy Award for directing "The Bishop's Wife" in 1947... His reputation as a skilled artist led to his assignment as director of the first film in CinemaScope, "The Robe."

Koster does manage to keep the dynamism of "Désirée" and is excellent on both the technical level as on the screen acting... The film won Oscar Nominations for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Color & Best Costume Design...

His high moment of the film was 'The Coronation Ceremony' where after the blessing of the crowns Napoleon seizes the crown from the Pope Pius VII and crowns first himself, then Josephine ... Read More

This is one of the most beautiful movies I've seen in terms of cinematography. Hong Kong was colorful and facinating, a world that doesn't exist 60 years later. I would gladly trade my old VHS for a fresh remastered DVD. The plot has been covered several times so I'd just like to mention a few individual scenes that stand out. Susan and Clark standing on the balcony with the wind whipping at them watching the typhoon blow in across the harbor. The old bartender and aging harlot marrying in the bar because "its not good to be alone when you're old" Hundreds of sampans sailing to the rescue like the US Cavalry. And of course I did mention Clark and Susan?

I'm moving and giving up my VHS plyer, having got most of my favorite flicks on discs. But I won't give it up if it means never seeing "Hotel" again. It sets such a mood; puts you right into the hotel and the era.
Almost everything about it is perfect, and what isn't, is campy.(like the decor of the hotel lobby) Rod Taylor is one of the sexiest men ever to hit the screen, i agree that while C. Spaak is gorgeous and classy, and a good actress; her spine is not straight, she looks kind of deformed about the shoulder area, and i guess no effort was made to hide it, but she's still lovely. I love the score, it has just the right haunting quality, and each character has his own theme. Larger-than-life, as always, Kevin McCarthy nearly steals the show, as the heavy. And that heartbreaking moment when Merle ... Read More

The Irwin Allen movie is a bit cheesey, but the print is good.
The silent version accompanying it is better dramatically and is very well preserved.

I wasn't all that crazy about the first Blade movie. I really loved the second Blade movie, but this one was a complete joke! It became less about Blade and more about Whistler's "sexy daughter". But even, that wasn't the problem.

The dialogue was terrible, the acting wasn't all that either. But even THAT wasn't the problem.

The plot was atrocious. First off, aren't vampires supposed to get stronger the older they are? So why is the first vampire running from Blade? Why do they seem matched in power? Dracula should have wiped the floor with Blade.

Also, in the beginning when Whistler's daughter was setting a trap for the vampires by using the fake baby. Shouldn't the vampires have been able to tell it was a fake baby?

Basically a lot of lame scenarios to ... Read More
