VHS : All My Sons
This is the performance of All My Sons to own since the play is done in its entirety, unlike the watered down 1948 film version where the role of Kate Keller is reduced to tatters. Here the play takes on full dimensions buoyed no doubt by the extraordinary performances of a cast consumed by their work. Special note must be given to Michael Learned who brings such power and intensity to the mother, she transcends her own mastery. And as the son of Steve Deever, the former partner of Joe Keller who is still serving prison time, Zselko Ivanek's George is a small gem. The vhs may be pricey but worth every penny. This is a production Arthur Miller would have cheered for.

VHS : Touched by Love
I finally gave up waiting for the DVD so I bought the VHS tape. It's a great story and the usual superb performance by Diane Lane. I have all of her movies that are available including three others only available on VHS (National Lampoon Goes to the Movies, Lady Beware, and Priceless Beauty). A movie can't possibly be bad if she's in it. Priceless Beauty came close but Ms. Lane managed to salvage even that one.

VHS : Christmas Without Snow
I have read a lot of the reviews here and I wonder if they watched the same movie I just did. Granted it was made in 1980. The picture quality is not as good as new ones made today. This movie is packed with a lot of very good actors. John Houseman is wonderful in this. This movie covers a lot of every day trials that average people go through. A Black boy is wrongly accused of vandelism. The preachers son is the guilty party. A Mother leaves her home after a divorce to go to another city to try and make a new life for herself and her son. A Womans husband has cancer and the treatment did not work and he dies and she asked the minister why God would take a young men like that. People working together to repair the pipe organ that the preachers son almost distroyed.

VHS : Power (1986)
I was educated, enlightened and entertained by this film two decades ago, and I still am. The lines in it are witty and they capture a political life perfectly. There are a lot of great moments - the pollster/computer guy Ralph explaining his work to candidate Fritz Weaver, Gere chastising a governor's assistant for petty bureaucratic moves which could jeopardize the campaign, Hackman drunkenly chastising Gere about taking on perverted candidates, Christie ferreting out E.G. Marshall's reasons for senate retirement.... Yes, there are a lot of plots and it can get chaotic. But that is so true of political campaign life. I love the pieces where they create television ads for the candidates. Brilliant, brilliant film. Why aren't there more films from writer David Himmelstein?!

VHS : Dragon: Bruce Lee Story
I never heard much about this movie. When it came out I only heard one person talking about it positively. Nobody else said anything so I went online and saw that the same two critically acclaimed critics that gave Speed 2 two thumbs up gave this one two thumbs down. I made I promise that I was going to check it out for myself and I did.

Dragon details all the aspects of Bruce Lee's life. From his triumphs to his failures. It briefly deals with his philosophy and how his own style of fighting(Jeet Kune Do) came to be.

Jason Scott Lee does an excellent job as Bruce Lee and Lauren Holly does perfect as his wife, Angela. The film does the best it can detailing important aspects of Bruce Lee's life and even though I doubt any film can dig deep into the life of Bruce Lee, Dragon did a great ... Read More

VHS : Gunsmoke - The Last Apache
I got this movie in VHS, long before it was offered online and it was tough to find in the video store. When I first saw it I had no clue about Matt Dillon's history with Michael Yardner until one day I saw the original Gunsmoke episode. I confess, I got this movie because of Joe Lara who plays Mandac, whom I didn't know of when I first saw this movie on television. It wasn't until Mr. Lara played in Tarzan: The Epic Adventures that I began to collect his movies, this being one of them--and I might add, in my collection only this movie and another of his are worth watching. When I was a fan I learned that mixed with some other things, Mr. Lara has--ta daaa--Apache in him though from which side, he never revealed. Joe played Mandac well as the brooding, slightly surly, yet gentle sort. Dillon's daughter, the nasty Beth, ... Read More

It is a great story. I think it should have been written into the original ROOTS, not shown as a seperate movie. Louis Gossett,Jr., and Levar Burton were terrific just as they were in the original ROOTS. We only see about five minutes of Michael Learned, which is a shame because she is such a good actress, I think they could have expanded her role. Shaun Cassidy was alright...I never thought he could act. It is a very moving story; brought me to tears when seeing how awful the slaves were treated.

VHS : Deadly Business
A great TV movie with great charachter study and good performances by Alan Arkin, Armand Assante, and Michael Learned with an excellent soundtrack. However this movie is told according to Harold Kaufmen, and the NJ Starledger. Arkins portrayal of Kaufmen makes him out to be a not-so-bad aging thief who has a crisis of conscience about what he is involved in. Other people involved in these events tell/told a conflicting story. Also Kaufman and the director Jack Thibeau admit Michael Learneds' charachter was created for dramatic purposes-still a well made film
