VHS : Space Jam
Space Jam as a movie has always held a special place in my heart. Being 12 years old as of this review, I have to say this movie has aged really well. Starring a real comic legend in Bill Murray and an acting great, Danny DeVito doing a voice over; this movie was destined to succeed. The real surprise for everyone was the performance of Michael Jordan. Although not exactly Sidney Poitier he did his job of being the face of this movie and when you make a movie with basketball as the main focus, you couldn't not have Michael Jordan.

The story goes that aliens from a theme park world named Moron Mountain, need a new attraction. Whilst throwing around ideas the evil boss, Mr. Swackhammer decides that he must get the Looney Tunes. He sends his cronies to Looney Tune land and get the ... Read More

My wife and I watched the "Super Size Me" DVD last night. It was the third time we watched it and we enjoyed it very much. Let's face it, Fast Food is a major facet of the American Culture. It's everywhere. Within five miles of our house there are "McDonalds" (2), "Jack in the Box"(3), "Karl's Jr." (2), "Wendy's"(2), "Rubio's," "Burger King," "Arby's," "El Polo Loco," "Taco Bell," "KFC," "Subway"(4) and about a half-dozen local Mexican Taco Shops. No matter what road you take, there's fast food readily available. Yum. Some of it is actually quite good and I confess to eating at some of the places now and then. My personal favorites are "El Polo Loco," "Subway" and a couple of the Mexican Taco Shops. Actually, if you know what you're doing, you can get a reasonably healthful meal. And, of course, ... The reader will forgive me as I indulge in a bit of "I've-vacationed-where-this-film-was-made". For me and my wife, Hood River, Parkdale, and Lost Lake on the North slope of Mount Hood in Oregon is not merely our favourite place to vacation - it's the ONLY place to vacation!

Seeing the film, we recognize places we love to spend every summer that we can.

On our way to Lost Lake, we fuel up at the very gas station that was featured prominently in the film. We've rowed our boat right past the place wher the kids played in the waters of the lake with the baby bear.

The Mountain you see in the film is clearly Mount Hood, the most beautiful of all the Cascade Mountains.

Therefore, if having been to the lovely and serene place where this movie was made, ... Read More

VHS : The Bunker
History's arch-demon is shown decliniing into suicide with a retinue of true believers that are still left in an underground bunker/pre-crypt. Hopkins always does good work, and has such amzing range. From my admittedly limited personal knowledge of the subject, it seemed to realistically capture yet another instance of the Beast going down and returning to dust. His Soul? Gehenna is my best guess. ... Read More

Thank God for Michael J. Fox!!! He was in his prime when he made this film. It is hilarious! Margaret Whitton is brilliant as "Auntie" Vera, especially in the limo scene(OH YEAHHHHHHHHHHH). I love the shots of New York, especially of the World Trade Center - pre9/11! All in all, a very funny and enjoyable movie. It's great when your feeling blue, out of a job or school(makes you want to be like "Brantley Foster/Carlton Whitfield). A great tribute to the 80's!!!!!!!!

VHS : Problem Child
This movie is just terrible and sickening. The poor little boy has clearly been abused and neglected for his whole life and passed along from foster family to foster family. No one seems to care about the boy or want to invest any interest in him. Eventually he is adopted by two people who really could care less about actually helping and raising a child. They adopt him for their own selfish purposes. "oh we'll finally be accepted by the neighbors and invited to parties." It's all about them and their own narcissism. It is beyond me why anyone would treat a child the way they do and expect him to be a perfect angel. I cannot understand how adopting a child for selfish reasons and then treating it badly is funny. And the icing on the cake... The boy and "mother" are kidnapped by some psycho..and the "father" could ... Read More

VHS : Hardball
I remeber Hardball coming out of the week as 9/11 back in 2001 and at the time it was released it was just the type of movie, the country needed. Hardball is a uplifting movie that makes one feel good inside. Keanu Reeves shows some of his best atcing since River's Edge. Diane Lane is very good in the female lead also. The kids on the team are all also veyr good actors , many of whom make a apperance for the first time on screen. The film will make you laugh and cry and I 'm proud to have it in my DVD collection. I give it *** out of ****.

I have to admit that I liked the epcot-esque city in which this story is based. Its retro sci-fi look is great and lends itself well to the story. The special effects range from "good for the time" to just plain "bad". The story itself drags on a little too long. There is no reason this movie should be 120 minutes. The premise, however, is good and has not been well duplicated since the original. I simply wish sci-fi movies could have avoided "coming of age" during the time of psychedelic filmography. Hard core classic sci-fi fans might be intrigued, but I fear most everyone else will be bored with this film. I can say it's average, and that's about all.
