VHS : Cool As Ice
Seriously though...

Vanilla Ice has the acting skills of a piece of driftwood.

Oh man, this movie is terrible. It's so terrible that I found myself cracking up the majority of the time. It's so mind-numbingly bad that I actually kinda liked watching it. But I just couldn't bring myself to give this crapfest a four or five star rating, no matter how many times I laughed at it. It's basically Vanilla Ice trying to be a neon-clad James Dean with fantastic pickup lines such as, "Drop that zero and get with a hero." Do I really need to say anything about that one? Didn't think so.

My favorite scene of the movie would probably be the one where he magically jumps his motorcycle over a fence without a ramp. Who needs physics? Not Ice.

I saw the movie when i was a pre-teen, I loved it! I could totally identify with Lisa. My parent's wouldn't let me date, till I was out of the house...lol.

The movie rolled along at a natural pass, and the actors were believable.

I give the movie 5 stars.

VHS : Can She Bake a Cherry Pie
One critic commented (I paraphrase) about another Henry Jaglom film that "most films try to lift your spirits by cheering you up. This film tries to lift your spirits by telling the truth." This applies perfectly to "Can She Bake a Cherry Pie?" As romantic comedy, it's everything "Notting Hill" is not, and (aside from being clever and funny) nothing that it is. The characters are ordinary in their life circumstances--utterly un-glamourous. Their sole distinction is in their neuroses--Eli is an obsessive rationalizer and Zee is not a little paranoid. They also happen to be very dear and decent people, which is why it is absolutely delightful to see each one weighing in and trying to correct the other's excesses. Eli tries, with little success, to get Zee to stop smoking and to chill out about being ... Read More

VHS : Tremors 4 - The Legend Begins
When first saw this movie, I thought it was as good as the origional Tremors movie and had charachter development, an entertaining storyline, and plenty of scares, laughes, and suspense.

Plot;

The movie starts out in 1889, beginning in a mine where someone is suddenly pulled up and, when is pulled down, is found with his head eaten off.
It is later revealed that seventeen workers were killed in that one day, and most of the people of what is known as Rejection Valley (soon to be changed to Perfection) flee from their homes, leaving less than ten people there.
Desperate, the remaining people telegram a message for help, and get a response that the owner of the mine is coming, and, becom excited, hoping that this owner will help them with their current predicament, ... Read More

VHS : In the Company of Spies
I recently watched an old spy movie on StarHub Cable Television. It's entitled 'In the Company of Spies', starring Tom Berenger & Ron Silver.

In a nutshell, a CIA operative was captured by the North Koreans in their country. His CIA boss, in order to protect national security, decided to bring in an old retired CIA operative (played by Tom Berenger) to retrieve both the captured agent & the vital information in his possession.

The movie was made during the end of the nineties. It did not contain all those fancy CGI stuff as well as the routine high-octane car chases or shoot-outs found in modern spy thrillers.

It was an entertaining movie about political intrigue, allegiance to human intelligence on the ground, loyalty to mentor & buddies, exploring scenarios (of ... Read More

. . . that it ends on a note of hope. If I remember correctly the book (which I read twenty years ago) ends in a kind of despair almost unheard of in books for young people. On the other hand, it's true that Alan grows up a lot in a short time and the desperately sad events at the end of the novel may well contribute to making him a strong and wise man.

Although this is a low-budget film, the acting of the principals could hardly be bettered.

VHS : Tremors 2
Back when Tremors 2 came out I was a bit surprised. The movie just seemed to come out of nowhere, it had very little promotion(I do still have the poster). It was straight to video, but I was quite excited-so excited in fact that I dragged my butt out of bed to be down at the grocery/video store by 6AM. Unfortunately, one of the schmuck employees must have beat me to it coz I didn't get to see it that day.
Anyhow, how does it measure up? Pretty good actually. Original Tremors co-screenwriter, Steve Wilson now steps into the director's chair. Because it's essentially the same writing and producing team, the film has the same kind of feel and humor of the first movie. This time around, the Graboids have turned up in a Mexican oil field and ol' handyman Earl(Fred Ward returning) is hired to kill them. Naturally ... Read More
