VHS : Shadowlands (1993)
When C.S.Lewis, author of such books as "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" was only a small boy of 9, his mother died and he learned that his only way through the pain and loneliness was to encase himself in an impenetrable shell, so that pain could not touch him. He leads an ordered, safe life as an Oxford Don, singing in the cathedral choir and lecturing to audiences of adoring women readers. When he meets American writer, Joy Gresham, her brash, New York, Jewish forthrightness almost batters him but luckily he summons enough courage to begin a friendship. He agrees to marry her so as to allow her and her son to remain in England and gradually she softens his defences and becomes part of his life as a platonic friend. When they discover that Joy is dying from incurable cancer, Lewis realises ... Read More

VHS : The Importance of Being Earnest
This is without doubt THE classic film version of the classic Oscar Wilde social comedy, The Importance of Being Earnest. Featuring the best British stage and screen actors of the time beautifully realised by the famous Anthony Asquith it is one of those few films that can be enjoyed over and over both as a supreme example of the Wilde wit and for the gusto with which the actors revel in their performance of this satire on the British upper class. Cannot be bettered.

3.One Cooks, the Other Doesn't starring: Rosanna Arquette, Allyce Beasley, Joseph Bologna, Oliver Clark, Tony Craig

This is actually a terrible movie, but if you enjoy watching (mocking, laughing at) terrible movies while getting drunk with friends, this one's for you. Plus I kind of like B-movie great Susan Ward. Another great-awful drinking movie starring Ward: _The In Crowd_.

VHS : The Franchise Affair
This is a great mystery, as those who have read Josephine Tey's novel know. Malahide is great (and when is he not) as a small town lawyer who fears he's in over his head when a criminal case comes his way. Did they or didn't they? Keeps you guessing until the final moments.

VHS : Harvest
i thought this was a decent little movie.it's about a writer who is sent
to Mexico for inspiration,to wrote the next big story, which will
hopefully be made into a movie.while in Mexico,he stumbles upon what he
believes is a black market ring for human organs.i didn't find this
movie overly exciting, but it did keep my interest.some of the scenes
stretch into implausibility and are not realistic.it's also pretty
predictable for the most part,if you're paying attention.the other
thing is,the movie is pretty low key.it's mot what i would call action
packed or exciting.still,it was an enjoyable diversion and I've sen
worse.for me,The Harvest is a 3/5

VHS : Great Escape 2: Untold Story
If you've already seen the original GREAT ESCAPE, then you shouldn't waste your time with this. GREAT ESCAPE 2 is supposedly closer to the real events, but that's still no excuse to bore the living daylights out of viewers. Here we have Christopher Reeve, Judd Hirsch (TV's TAXI) and Donald PLeasance as very poor stand ins for Steve McQueen, James Coburn and Charles Bronson. Probably part of this is that I slogged my way through the three hour version, each 90 minute part has a different director which probably didn't help matters. Part 1 is directed by Paul Wendkos and Part 2 by Jud Taylor. If you absolutely must watch this then try and find the 90 minute edited version. Don't torture yourself like I did. Maybe part of the claustrophobia of Bronson's character in the original may have been the prophecy that this ... Read More

VHS : The Glass Mountain
I had watched the Glass Mountain, once, as a young girl back in the early sixties and I remember that it had left an impact on me. Over the years I have often wondered whatit was about, as I was too young to remember. Now I have found it at AMAMZON but only on VHS which is only compatible with USA and Canada. I come form Malta in Europe, so I CANNOT WATCH IT !!!. Isn't there a way it could be converted to EUROPEAN specifications so we may enjoy it too????

VHS : Westminster Abbey
Mr. Bennett is a wonderful, witty guide to Westminster Abbey. I have shared these tapes with others who have also enjoyed them. If you see these before you go to the Abbey, you have an even greater appreciation for a wonderful place.
