VHS : The Color of Friendship
Too many films about race relations and prejudice are either geared toward adults only or are so much about the past that they are too graphic and cannot be shown to children. This is not the case with The Color of Friendship. I am 43 years old and grew up in the south. I watch this movie over and over. The movie starts with both girls having preconceived ideas of what race the other should be based on the society and country that they live in. Early on they learn that they are wrong. This - along with so many other things - are lessons that adults too can learn from. This movie could easily be included as part of Black History Month - and it is actually shown on TV over and over during Black History Month - but could be included in media presentations at the local level if it were available ... VHS : If Looks Could Kill
I remember seeing this movie when it originally came out in the cinemas - and I came out with a smile on my face. Its one of those silly but really enjoyable teen movies that were so popular in the 1980s (eg Ferris Buller's Day off or Real Genius) that aren't made any more.

This is still I think the best Bond parody movie I've seen - given how much else that has come out on DVD over the years I'm still amazed that this isn't available anywhere in the DVD format. If you run across an old tape (and still have a VHS player) its worth popping this in it for a watch. Don't take this serious and you'll enjoy yourself and if you've sat through a lot of genuine James Bond movies over the years then you'll probably really appreciate the riffs in this movie better - and wonder how you'd ... I first saw this movie on the Lifetime for Women network channel. I thought it was a touching and heartwarming story of a family trying to stay connected despite tragedy and obstacles. It is so refreshing to see African-Americans depicted as what they are: flesh and blood human beings. I rarely see this movie run during the holiday season. I am so glad I was able to purchase this video through an Amazon seller in order that my children see Christmas and the holiday spirit reflected in their beautiful Black images. The movie can be a little over the top with drama, but aren't most holiday movies? This movie needs to be on DVD. I loved the acting and the message of unconditional love and family.

Relentlessly sad and painful but also sweet and funny and somehow hopeful. It's universal theme of change and ability to adapt to change can be applied to the stages of life in individual lives, in industry, in cultures and in countries. The theme song "The Good Times Are Coming," sung by Mama Cass is the greatest example I've ever seen of how music can elevate and accentuate the theme and tone of a movie. Thank goodness for the TCM channel, which makes movies like this available to those who would otherwise never have the opportunity to experience them.

VHS : Beetlejuice (P&S Slip)
Maybe the definitive Burton film (or maybe more like a tie with `Edward Scissorhands'), `Beetlejuice' is a perfect representation of what Tim Burton is all about. It is loud and boisterous and at the same time dark and edgy. The film very much looks and feels like almost everything that comes out of the Burton factory, yet it is surprisingly fresh in a way. Maybe this has to do with the fact that it is one of his earlier works and so the colors and graphics are not as crisp, which adds an almost gothic layer to the films feel.

Then again, maybe it is the mere fact that Michael Keaton gives the best performance in any Burton film; ever.

The film follows Adam and Barbara as they learn to cope with life after death. Yes, a horrific car accident leaves Adam and Barbara dead ... Read More

Every time this movie aired on tv I watched it and loved every minute of it! I searched looking for it on DVD but it's not yet available much to my dismay! Such a great movie deserves a great dvd release! The 5 stars are for the movie itself not the vhs issue.

This was a decent prison film that hooked the viewer & kept you interested in the plot. The characters were fun to watch & interesting. It appealed to the viewer on more of a psychological level. Overall, not a bad way to spend a couple of hours. Not over-the-top like many of today's prison films which heavily rely on blood & gore. This one has depth to its characters & I thought this was truly well done. It's based on a play by the same name. If you like good, offbeat prison pictures that examine its characters & maintains realism in the process, this is a good choice. It's a cult classic. I wonder when MGM will finally get on the ball & put this on DVD.

i just saw this movie early this morning i was able to see only 75 to 80 percent of it because i was still in bed very tired but when i saw legendary actor paul newman in it i decided to give it a shot paul newman was good as harry keach in it he was serious but yet adding a little bit of comedy acting he plays a strict father who was very tough on his son and wanted him to grow up by being able to take care of himself he lost his wife in the life and had a difficult time continuing with the rest of his life by refusing to see other women who wanted to go out with him Robby Benson was howard (paul newman's movie son) he personally reminded me of john travolita from grease and Emile Hirsch from a girl next door put together he had a pregnant girl played by Ellen Barkin Morgan Freeman and the late great Ossie Davis make ... VHS : Treasure Planet (Walt Disney Pictures Presents)
I know this was a box office bomb, but being the Treasure Island fanatic that I am I could not help but love it for its wildly creative retelling and the wonderful animation and spirit. I think that this film truly captured the emotional wonder of Robert Louis Stevenson's original story, if not the details (Then again, not too many movies exactly get the book correct). The soundtrack is incredible, perfectly piratey. The entire story is one of longing, angst, and change. So it may be a little moody, but it's a beautiful peace of art and Disney magic.
