I loved this movie, man. However I can't give it anything higher than a single star. It could have been great but for one very important issue. The Centurion who is present when the earthquake occurred during Christ's crucifixion states "Truly this was A Son of God!" WRONG! Read the Bible my friends, the Centurion said: Matthew 27:54 "Truly this was THE Son of God!''

Whether this was simply a misspoken or flubbed line, some slack oversight by the writer, or an intentional, calculated misrepresentation of the Word of God designed to throw confusion into the mind of the viewer.. I don't know. If I had been working on this project and I'm sure this movie was proof-edited before being released, I would have caught that. Man, when that scene came up it literally hit me like a ton ... Read More

Branagh's Hamlet

Watching Kenneth Branagh's massive film of the complete text of Hamlet for about the fourth time, I realized that this film mirrors the talents and career of its talented actor/director. Ever since his highly successful film of Henry V, which ably competes with the classic version of Olivier, it seems that Branagh has been trying to film another great Shakespeare movie, but has not quite been able to repeat his early triumph. His long Hamlet has not been able to change that pattern. His use of certain unsuitable actors, his lack of real passion, and his inability to always keep things moving have made this a merely enjoyable movie rather than a great one.
I don't ... Read More

This is a movie everyone who can should see. It is deeply moving through most of it. Some viewers will see humor in it as well. The superlatives are too numerous to list in a short review. Some viewers will be disappointed in spots. To be more realistic, the film would need to exlore Gandhi's mere mortal side (as starters, his wife suggests he cheated on his celebacy oath a few times). It also would need to exlore his showman side (as starters, he wore his loincloth when visiting England in very cold weather).

VHS : Ruling Class
Peter O' Toole's binge drinking (or occasional bouts of momentary sobriety) from the days when this film was made explains a lot about why he took on the role of a mad English Lord in the allegedly funny dark comedy The Ruling Class, although how Arthur Lowe was talked into coming aboard this brain-hurting turkey is a mystery.

In a nutshell, this perhaps one-time avant-garde movie from 1972 plays out like this... A fusty old nobleman, the thirteenth Earl of Gurney, played by Harry Andrews, is secretly an asphyxiphiliac who gets his jollies by having his manservant hang him (as in by the neck) from a bedpost every night, only to step in and rescue him just before he permanently blacks out. Well, the equally antique servant one night keels over of a heart attack right in the middle of one of His Lordship's bizarre ... Read More

Four former Doctor Whos are reunited, so that in itself is a treat. The four are Jon Pertwee, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy, a.k.a. Doctors 3, 5, 6, and 7. Two other Who alumni who appear are Nicola Bryant, who played Peri, the Sixth Doctor's assistant, but here, is Baker's co-worker and love interest, and Michael Wisher, best known for providing Dalek voices as well as playing Davros in "Genesis Of The Daleks" and appearing in "Terror Of The Autons," "Carnival Of Monsters," and "Planet Of Evil." Wisher plays the Secretary of State for the Environment here.

The story is about investigative reporter Al Dunbar (Davison), who's latest target is the Airzone Corporation, an organization who has been hired by the government to clean up the air. His mentor Oliver Trethewey, is mildly impressed with the video ... Read More

A worthless film that borrows heavily from all the 80's teen dramas out there. It's filled with a typical plot line, including rivals falling in love and being chased by muscle bound morons. This stuff was popular in high school but there's absolutely no redeeming quality here, its utterly boring. Most of the actors aren't working, except a few of the goons who are doing stunt work. Avoid at all costs, except to analyze junk 80's clothing styles........
