VHS : Les Miserables - The Dream Cast in Concert
I've always wanted to see this musical live ever since I read the book, but this video was just as good and cheaper. The last portion when Valjean's character played by all the international cast sing together was absolutely breathtaking.

VHS : Where Eagles Dare
Clint Eastwood probably mowed down more of Adolf Hitler's German soldiers in Brian G. Hutton's "Where Eagles Dare" than he did western outlaws as either Sergio Leone's Man with No Name in the "Dollars" trilogy or criminals as "Dirty Harry" in his five Warner Brothers crime movies. Bestselling British author Alistair MacLean penned the splendid screenplay that he later converted into a much tamer novel about a team of elite British M.I. 6 secret agents that parachute into Germany to rescue one of the top-ranking officers with a mother lode of knowledge about the June 6th Normandy landings. This MGM blockbuster that runs 158 minutes is probably the greatest action-adventure movie with a World War II setting ever produced. We're talking wall-to-wall gunfire with more surprises and complications than ... Read More

VHS : Dolly Parton - Dolly in London
I have this tape and hoping to find DVD here but no luck (yet!). Anyway I saw only one review so I thought I'd better get in and help! This is Dolly at her best, vocally and visually. Before she got too thin (eat dammit!) before her face was made too tight (ah gravity-who can blame her?) she looked SO good. This is the Dolly equivalence of Elvis's "Aloha from Hawaii" he was his best in every way there, and this is THE Dolly to have.

The opening is such fun seeing the Brits flip over her from the airport to the pubs, and puts an obnoxious jealous she-beast reporter in her place when she tried to embarrass her at a press conference. Then Buckingham Palace guards couldn't help but notice her (funny quip). I wish those opening minutes had lasted longer - but it was on to the show. Her version of ... Read More

Having read many of the worst reviews, I can fully appreciate where the kids are "coming from". They don't really get it because it was too full of the symbols of the time in which the film was shot. It is obviously not a piece of timeless art intended for future generations. It was for that time and it accomplished its goal, which was to wake up a new generation to the possibilities of life. Choices. the music was current and dynamic and added to the power. Unless you are old enough, or have submerged yourself in the period, I would not expect you to enjoy it. If Woodstock The Movie, or The Last Waltz have meaning for you, you'll probably get something from it. Otherwise, just assume that you don't get it because YOU HAD TO BE THERE. Film classes might be able to put into context for you.

VHS : I Love Lucy's Zany Road Trip: California Here We Come! Part 2
This videotape has the second half of the celebrated Hollywood episodes from "I Love Lucy," including classic guest performances by John Wayne and Harpo Marx. Episodes 121-127 are from the fourth season of the show, and were written by Jess Oppenheimer, Madelyn Pugh, and Bob Carroll, Jr. The others are from the fifth season, when Bob Schiller and Bob Weiskopf were added to the show's writing staff:

Episode 121, "Hollywood Anniversary" (April 4, 1955), has Ricky forgetting his anniversary and lying to Lucy about having planned a big party with lots of celebrities at the Mocambo. She refuses to attend the party he comes up with instead and Ricky has to get her there so he can sing the "Anniversary Waltz" to her.

Episode 122, "The Star Upstairs" (April 18, 1955) is Cornel Wilde, who has made ... Read More

VHS : I Love Lucy's Zany Road Trip - California Here We Come!
This three-tape set is Part 1 (of 2) of "I Love Lucy's Zany Road Trip" to California (1954-1955).

This '54-'55 season of I Love Lucy is by far my favorite. Many funny moments await Lucy and Company in sunny southern California, as well as on the road en route to the Golden State.

This collection includes 14 episodes, beginning with the gang still in New York, in "Ricky's Contract". Many all-time Lucy Classics are contained in this three-cassette package, such as the hysterical episode with William Holden ("L.A. At Last"), which originally aired on network television on February 7, 1955.

There's also the episode where Fred buys the ancient Cadillac, which sparks some of the funniest moments of the whole series. "Lucy Gets In Pictures", "The Hedda Hopper Story", and "Tennessee Bound" are ... Read More

This is an excellent parody of the James Bond movies. Almost as good as the Peter Sellers bond movie. It manages to mix in the nudity quite well.
