"Friends and Family" Laughs for All Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride "Friends and Family" is like a breeze on a hot summer day. It is one of those comedies like they used to make with plenty of laughs for laughs sake alone. The story is about a gay couple who are hit men for the Mafia. A situation like this leaves the field open for jokes about stereotypes but that is not what we have. Instead there are plotlines that are crazy and fun and are intertwined in plotlines that are chock full of wit and good jokes. This movie does not deserve too many words -- it's largely a forgetable, vanity project made by Susanna Hoff's mother, Tamar Hoffs, for her pop singer daughter. It's vacuous and difficult to sit throgh -- at least Beack Blanket Bingo had those Annette and Frankie duets interspersed between the weak plots. And that extended scene with a half-naked Susanna looking in the mirror while Aretha Franklin's Respect plays in the bckground. Respect? No wonder she never got any again after making this atrocious waste of celluloid.

I thought they never would put out Mannequin2 on DVD, then it came in a set. The first one is great about a mannequin coming to life at nights and falling in love with the male window dresser. The second one has a different actress and leading man... not as good.

"The Last Innocent Man" is an edgy courtroom/lawyer thriller with an early strong performance by now legendary Ed Harris. I'll admit my bias right now! Yes, I was a Juror extra on the shoot. However, working in such a capacity did not allow for any look at the script. So, I had to wait to see it along with the general populace. There are a couple of script contrivances (there was trouble with rewriting during the shoot) but it is the performances that more than make up for that. Besides the aforementioned Mr. Harris, there is a simmering performance by Clarence Williams III, Roxanne Hart is very good as well as little-known Bob Biheller in a small role as a private eye. Give this movie a shot, you shant be disappointed.
