This is a decent film that deserves to be re-issued on DVD. While not a big budget opus like infamous Mel Gibson's THE PATRIOT, this is a much higher quality film overall. While a bit slow in the beginning with family relationships in Lexington, the film picks up when the British at last appear on the screen! There is a nice shot of the British columm deploying impressively into line to face Captain Parker's company. The only problem here is that the British force at this point consisited of six companies of Light Infantry who jogged into town at a fast clip before forming line opposite the militia. This would have been less impressive to show, plus i guess the available re-enactors could not all be shown in Light Infantry garb. So we get the usual mix of line companies, Grenadiers and ... VHS : The Journey of Natty Gann
This is a quietly touching adult film made by Disney long before they had their Touchstone division. Meredith Salanger gives a star-making performance as a teenage girl growing up with her father during the depression. A young John Cusack has a nice turn as well, already showing the kind of quiet and surprising talent he would become known for in coming years.

Natty's father (Ray Wise) finds the only work he can during the depression and reluctantly leaves Natty with someone who turns out to have no love or compassion in her heart for anyone but herself. He has gone to Washington to cut trees and leaves a letter promising to send for her, along with a locket containing a picture of her dead mother. But when no word arrives she runs away to find him, riding the rails. Ray Wise gives a fine ... Read More

The other three customer/reviewers here are apparently unaware that this movie is based on the true story (mid-60s) of the Pied Piper of Tucson (Charles Schmid) who is far more weird than the movie's main character and who murdered three women while posing as the Elvis of Arizona. Charlie applied ManTan w/ a trowel, drew a huge "beauty" mark on the right side of his face, dyed his hair black and piled it to the sky and since he was only 5-3 he also wore huge boots stuffed full of newspaper, cans, etc. so he could be as tall as the high-schoolers he was running w/. He was 23. The movie is good in a whacked out kind of way, but the "true" story is far whackier. The Pied Piper got a double death sentence and 50 years for his three murders, got a reprieve when the death penalty was deemed unconstitutional in ... Read More

You'd think an interesting plot and John Carpenter
would result in a great film experience.
Think again.
The acting was bad and there was no atmosphere,
tension or scares.
There were a couple of moments when I thought
the film was primarily created as propaganda
for birth/population control
and as a not-too-subtle attack on Christianity.

I still like the plot.
This is a remake, so perhaps the original
is superior, which is often the case.

Even though this movie has a couple of "Aw Cmons!", it maintains a nice pace and has a good atmosphere. Joanna Pacula is both talented and beautiful and it is worth the wait for her to appear. The price is a a little expensive, but I was able to rent it from Netflix. I would have bought this dvd if it was under $25.

I have to say that this is a must buy if you are a Sheen fan. This movie shows how well the Sheens can work together. The movie has plenty of action to keep you intrigued.

I am a River Phoenix fan,and I personally think he made a good portrayal of what a teenager with family, group pressure, sexuality, friendship, and personal issues deals with, and how good and bad decisions turn out to have a diffrent outcome than the ones one might expect.

Lake Placid (Widescreen Edition)
Lake Placid is total Wild the horror subgenre of giant animals running amok, Lake Placid features a giant crocodile that has somehow found its way to an isolated lake in Maine. The absurdity of crocodiles in Maine sets the tone for the entire movie, which has no ambitions beyond mixing a little fright with a little humor. Bridget Fonda (Point of No Return, Jackie Brown) plays a paleontologist sent to investigate a large tooth; Bill Pullman (Independence Day, Lost Highway) is a fish and game warden just trying to keep the peace; Oliver Platt (Funny Bones, Flatliners) plays a loose-cannon mythology professor who swims with crocodiles for sport; and Brendan Gleeson (an excellent but little-known actor, most noted for The General) is a local sheriff with a short temper and a big gun.
