VHS : Elmo Saves Christmas
If the thought of watching Elmo makes you cringe, you will be relieved to know that he is much quieter and lovable in this film. His regular show on Seasame street is not my cup of tea but there is no piano playing and minimal elmo laughs in this one. I watched it several times and enjoyed it. Of course my 2 year old son just loved it too.

VHS : How to Make an American Quilt
For once, I have found a movie version of a book is BETTER than the book. I have the book, but the movie presentation makes the book a major disappointment. This movie was superbly cast with excellent performances. Our family has viewed this video repeatedly and still enjoys it. It was a great addition to our family's video library.

3.Real Malcolm X starring: Dan Rather, Maya Angelou, Ray Barron, Ella Collins, Rod Collins

VHS : Real Malcolm X
I recommend this video to anyone wanting to know more about Malcolm X, and anyone wanting to teach others about Malcolm X - Parents, Teachers/Professors. This video covered so much about him in a very short amount of time. I was suprised to see some of the footage! There were several photographs and live footage that I've never seen in other documentaries and books. Overall, this documentary did a very good job of showing the transition Malcolm went through...From beginning to the devestating end...

I thought that janet jackson part in the movie didn't really give a strong plot really at all. I felt that Tupac acting was better than Janet and the part with Regins King.If your bored at home it's worth watching if nothing else is on tv. Bring back the 90's feel .

5.America Beyond Color Line With Henry Louis Gates starring: Henry Louis Gates, Maya Angelou, Reggie Rock Bythewood, Don Cheadle, Aasha Davis

VHS : America Beyond Color Line With Henry Louis Gates
This is a four-part PBS/BBC series on one disc. I wonder if it is supposed to be the New World equivalent to the documentary that Gates did on Africa. I didn't see that series, so my analysis may not be as informed as it could be. This series continues Gates' acknowledgment as a public intellectual. Though the title says "beyond" the color line, it really could have been re-titled "about" the color line. This documentary covers mostly Black Americans talking about race; this is the same that that DuBois contemplated one century ago. To be fair, class does come up here, both in terms of the privileged and the challenged. Also, almost every interviewee does not know what to say when asked the question "Does racism still exist?" On the one hand, they don't want to sound naive, or like a Clarence Thomas ... Read More

I went to the library, and borrowed 5-6 tapes on Malcolm X. Out of all of them, including the Spike Lee movie, this one is *THE* best. We even showed it at our University twice because it was so good. Includes aspects of the history such as the "Fruit of Islam" and other little tidbits you won't see in the other documentaries!

7.Maya Angelou: Creativity with Bill Moyers / Documentary starring: Bill Moyers, Maya Angelou, Judy Chicago, Mary Gordon, Ted Gourley
