One must never compare the Stage to the Film when it comes to musicals. Sometimes they are better than the original. Sometimes worse. ALWAYS different! That's just the nature of the transition. This is one of the great film musicals of all time. It's just not Sandy Wilson's "The Boy Friend". I love the stage play as well. This is a musical film about a production of the stage musical with all kinds of backstage intrigue as well as the terrific device of seeing a number "as is", as the director would have done if only he had money, and as the film maker in attendance would make a movie of the same number. Divine!

This is one of my favorite movies. The music is great. The acting is great. For me, everything is great except that it also has many sad scenes, however we have to understand that it is an interpretation of the life of Tchaikovsky.

VHS : Dr. Terror's House of Horrors
This is old school English horror, with maximum emphasis on performances and atmosphere. The film is divided into several creepy tales regarding death and doom, and with a cast lead by Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee this is a quality flick. Recommended.

I rented this film and Truffault's Day for Night one night, and showed them to a love interest of mine at the time. I showed her Day for Night, which she absolutely hated and despised (despite the fact it was a dubbed, pan and scan version, so she couldn't have used the "subtitled/letterbox" excuse many use). She stopped calling me after that. I wished I had shown her The Devils, as it would have warped her fragile, little mind and stayed in her subconscious for the rest of her life. It would have become a permanent parasite, popping up occasionally and messing with her brain when she least expected it. This is one of Ken Russell's most amazing, outrageous, and thought provoking/brain melting films. It is arguably his best work, where the frenzy and mania reach dizzying heights. It is not a work where there ... Read More

This movie is cute for my 8 year old but it's not really one she wants to watch over and over in our van for long trips. It has some sad parts and the story line is too heavy for my 2 year old to stay interested. It's very cute and enjoyable but is more a one time movie in our opinion. I'm still glad to own it.

I'm a huge fan of British sci-fi and horror films and this film was almost a 'Holy Grail' for me. I'd heard very little about the film, but being an Amicus production, I knew I had to see the film. Finally, someone sent me the video and I settled in for the first initial viewing. My rating of '5 Stars' isn't based upon the film being an award-winning film, but rather the fun I had in enjoying this film. This film starts out on the serious side and perhaps that was the intention, but it doesn't take long for this film to fall out of the serious mode and into a fun experience.....at least for this viewer. The characters are a nice mixture of seriousness and full-out fun. Personally, Mr Yellowlees and Mrs Jones make the film for me. The effects are very low-budget, the lone 'beastie' is very low budget, but has a ... Read More

I saw a clip from this movie in one of my sister's Switched-on Schoolhouse classes. It featured a very realistic-looking William Penn, a chess-playing Charles II, and Lord Halifax.

It wasn't the greatest adventure movie of its kind and the title is kinda misleading (although sky pirates to me were Don karnage and his gang on Disney's Tailspin)
I used to rent it all the time at Blockbuster back in 90-91 but havent seen it since. It has a strong Tales of the Gold Monkey feel to it It's a good rainy day movie and I'd like to get it on DVd if it ever comes out
