1.I Come in Peace starring: Dolph Lundgren, Brian Benben, Betsy Brantley, Matthias Hues, Jay Bilas
directed by: Craig R. Baxley
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : I Come in Peace
Essentially, "I Come In Peace" (aka "Dark Angel") is a great idea that was only moderately well exectued. With the exception of appearing in a religious drama, this is probably the strangest vehicle for action hero Dolph Lundgren to get himself over, and to some degree, the Swedish Superman makes it work, but even along with the passing performances of the rest of the cast and a pretty original bad guy, "Peace" ends up being forgettable due to its uninspired pacing and overall lack of action.

Jack Caine (Lundgren) is a vice cop who's earned himself notoriety for doing things his way, much to the dislike of the department. After being assigned a by-the-book partner whom he frequently finds himself at odds with (Brian Benben, "Radioland Murders"), Caine's personal war on Houston's ... Read More

I'll go out on a limb and give this one a 4 stars. Though it feels like your basic average martial arts flick (and unfortunately, another lame movie taking place in the run-down future), the martial arts cast and amount of fight action make up for it. Though the fights aren't overly impressive, and some of these guys are used to giving a stronger performance, it seems there are fights every 5 minutes throughout the film. And I have seen plenty of worse fights in other films too. If it weren't for the action and cast, this movie would flop.

Billy Blanks. Jala Mehri. Bobbie Phillips. Matthias Hues. Bolo Yeung. All 5 star in this film, and all 5 are impressive martial artists. While the first 2 guys I mentioned (Blanks and Mehri) are not the most popular among fans, and are lousy ... Read More

VHS : No Retreat No Surrender 2
This movie is just about opposite everything from the first NRNS except for one thing - great 80's cheesy action.

The story and characters are so different from the 1st NRNS movie that its a wonder why this is a sequal, because it really isn't. However, the same cheesy feel applies to this movie as observed in the first. This time though, the story revolves around the main character, played by Loren Avedon, traveling from Thailand into Cambodia to retrieve his girlfriend who has been taken by Vietnameese and Russia soldiers, who are led by the movie's villain, played by Matthias Hues. If you enjoy Matthis Hues, who plays the villain and usually a good one in most martial arts films (Kickboxer 2, Talons of The Eagle, Blackbelt, Death Match) you will love him in NRNS2. Cynthia Rothrock (China ... Read More

VHS : Fists of Iron
Fists of Iron gave me mixed feeling when watching. Some parts of the movie are really good, and I even got into the plot but then the next scene can get real cheesy, and then vice versa. Overall, the plot was ok, nothing original and the character cast overall was decent, but the amount of action in the movie still makes for good entertainment.

Biggest reason I wanted Fists of Iron was Matthias Hues, probably one of my favorite martial art bad guys who stars in many movies such as Kickboxer 2, No Retreat No Surrender 2, Blackbelt, Death Match, and Talons of the Eagle to name a few. Again he plays the bad guy in Fists of Iron who gets the big final fight scene versus the character played by Michael Worth (To Be The Best, Final Impact). Michael Worth is the star and gives an alright performance, ... Read More

VHS : Mission of Justice
In the genre of B-action movies, Jeff Wincott's are always a bit ahead of the pack in terms of quality. Mission of Justice is one of my favorite Wincott flicks. Lots of great quailty including story, action, charcaters and acting.
One of the best things about Wincott is that he is a much better actor than most martial artists. That acting tends to rub off in his films on the other actors, because as a whole, everyone does an ok job compared to most B-grade movies. The action is the same - top notch martial arts choreography that looks realistic. The stories are always more interesting in Wincott's movies too, and Mission of Justice is great too, and even carries a bit of suspense with it. The character list is good too - Matthias Hues (Kickboxer 2, No Retreat No Surrender 2, Blackbelt) plays the usual ... Read More

6.Fist Fighter starring: Jorge Rivero, Edward Albert, Brenda Bakke, Mike Connors, Simón Andreu

VHS : Fist Fighter
I wasn't sure about this title, as I had never heard of it before and knew nothing about the lead actor - George Rivero. My reason for purchasing this film was Matthias Hues. He is a largely built machine of approx. 6'5", playing the villain's role in many martial art films. Though this is not a martial arts film, I decided to check it out anyways to see what he was capable of in this one.

Matthias wasn't the only one who got my attention, but the lead charcater did too. George Rivero plays the fist fighter - named C.J. Thunderbird. An older man, but he is extremely built and cut for someone his age. As an actor, he wasn't too bad and as a fighter in the film he was fun to watch.

The story was a bit more in depth than I expected too. It begins as a quest for revenge, as C.J. travels ... Read More

7.Bounty Tracker starring: Lorenzo Lamas, Matthias Hues, Cyndi Pass, Eric Mansker, Brooks Gardner
directed by: Kurt Anderson
January 18, 1995
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Bounty Tracker
Lorenzo is one of my least favorite martial arts actors. His performances are typically wooden, and his athletic skills are not very memorable. This movie, however, has more to offer thus making it a more enjoyable film. The suspense and action are fine, and Matthias Hues is always an added enjoyment as the "calm & cool, yet unpredictable" villain role that he adds to most of his performances. There are some downsides, and that includes a lousy finale fight scene and some downtime in the plot.

The first half of Bounty Tracker actually appealed to me the most. Lorenzo Lamas is established as "the bounty tracker" after entering an all-black club, dressed as a nerdy college professor, to eventually surprise his target inside. The bad guys entrance in the film is pretty explosive too, taking out a small ... Read More

Great for Star Wars fans! Every cute girl in the world moves to Hollywood, then an earthquake knocks the whole state into the ocean. We're left with normal looking girls. Evil Ronald Reagan type guy decides to smuggle in "pleasure droids". Han Solo-type bounty hunter played by Mark Singer has to find the "pleasure droids" before it's too late. His boss makes him work with a plain-jane droid technician girl, and their quest takes them to this Jaba The Hut guy, to this cantina with a cat-woman stripper, to an under water city. It keeps making fun of the kind of fake-chested girls in bad T&A movies, because the "pleasure droids" may be beautiful but they are dumb. The plain-jane girl is smart, and Mark Singer falls in love with her. I laughed alot at the jokes, and the space battle was pretty cool, too!

9.Digital Man starring: Ken Olandt, Kristen Dalton, Adam Baldwin, Matthias Hues, Paul Gleason

VHS : Digital Man
In this derivative scifi misfire, a digital man has been created, something of a terminator-type of machine/man. He is indestructible and he has been secretly programmed to steal some codes to set off nuclear bombs. The special team assigned to stop this digital man is led by Ken Olandt. Ed Lauter and Paul Gleason are on hand as the bad guys and Adam Baldwin plays the inept captain. Matthias Hues is the Digital Man, and he equals Schwarzenegger in his blandness.
Nothing new and unusual, except for a shotgun wielding old woman who becomes more annoying with each scene.
Bland and ineffective.

VHS : Kickboxer 2
There seems to be a lot of contention about the superiority between Kickboxer 1 and 2. I have come to like Kickboxer 2 more than Kickboxer 1. I think the scripting of part 2 is better, however the climatic fight scene in Kickboxer 1 is superior to Kickboxer 2. But, the journey to the final fight is more entertaining in 2 than in 1.
