LOVED IT: OHH FOR THE FADING DAYS OF DISCO. BYE BYE CLUB 21. NEW YORK IN GENERAL HAS NOT REALLY CHANGED. THEY JUST DRESS DIFFERENTLY NOW, AND GO TO DIFFERENT CLUB'S AND YOU HEAR DIFFERENT MUSIC. THE DOULBE STANDARD FOR MEN AND WOMEN HAVING SEX IS STILL IN PLACE. NOT MUCH IS CHANGED. I THOUGHT THAT ALOT OF WHAT I SAW ON THE DVD WAS EXACTLY THE WAY IT HAPPENED WHEN I GREW UP. IT WAS A TRIP DOWN MENOROY LANE. JM

VHS : Streetcar Named Desire (1995)
This lavish 1995 television remake of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE is simply sublime. Jessica Lange is perfect casting for the tour-de-force role of Blanche DuBois, and Tennessee Williams' play still packs a hell of a punch.

Blanche DuBois (Jessica Lange) goes to visit her sister Stella (Diane Lane) and her husband, boorish Stanley Kowalski (Alec Baldwin) one sultry summer in New Orleans. Blanche lives in a world of her own creation to protect herself from the frightening, black gaping void of a hostile real world from which she simply cannot survive. When Stanley discovers Blanche's weaknesses it's only a matter of time before she cracks completely.

Tennessee Williams' dramatic tale of the innocent and fragile being crushed by a hostile and cruel world is still amazingly ... Read More

It is one of those movies to watch when you have a Short-Attention-Span day. Don't analyze, just enjoy the occasional silly joke. And do not worry if you miss any part of the movie. You get used to it, it seems better the 2nd time.

Great movie which basically does for community theater what Spinal Tap did to rock and roll.

Not quite as well done as Best in Show or a Mighty Wind, but still a classic.

Rose Red
'Rose Red' was a good story without all the spooks and goblins of Halloween.
The placement of the story, and it's surroundings, looked more realistic and less ridiculess (unbelieveable) than most spook movies. I enjoyed it.

An overprotective mother crosses over the boundary of the emotional barriers when she fears her son's death in a military explosion and must wait for the official notice. On the other hand a desperate man who want to be redeemed, and the eldest son who tries to keep the family together will be the dramatic coordinates of this unusual film, of notorious level and high artistic virtues.

Consider the year: 1994; and two futures Oscar winners: Marcia Gay Harden and Susan Sarandon; besides add the presence of Sam Shepard and Robert Sean Leonard and the fine direction of Robert Allen Ackerman.

Two thirds of Ireland's popoulation doesn't live in the towns most Americans have heard of like Galway, Cork, Dublin. This film hit life in small market towns (down the country) square on the head. The scene where the lads are off in the delivery van to the disco the next town over is dead on, all piled into the back and bouncing around on wee roads for miles. The macho posing and abuses hurled back and forth eventually leading to a row sadly couldn't have reminded me more of my numerous nights out with friends in the Midlands. This is the Ireland they don't want you to see in the travel brochures..complete with post dole day, chip shop trash. And the amount of times I've overheard people there speak the words, "Say nothing 'til ya hear more..." says quite a few have viewed the film as well. My suggestion is to ... Read More
