VHS : Bulletproof Heart (aka Killer)
I first saw this film on VHS during my Anthony LaPaglia infatuation. That phase is long over yet this remains one of my top 20 films of all time. I bought it again on DVD and still really love it when I feel like life is kicking me just for the fun of it. What gets me every time is the cat and mouse game fate plays with all the characters.

Anthony LaPaglia has made a career of playing soulful, shopworn Italian-American characters. It's hard to imagine that he's in fact Australian. This role is the epitome of world weary. His character is so far from being alive, it's a wonder he hasn't yet offed himself. He's a careful and therefore successful assassin. Understandably reticent when asked to take a job with "no prep, no scopeout", he does so only to honor the request of his friend ... Read More

VHS : Jacob's Ladder
"With fellow critics, I got involved in a conversation about the underlying reality of the film. Was it all a flashback - or a flash forward? What was real, and what was only in the hero's mind? Are even the apparently "real" sequences the product of his imagination?" Roger Ebert

My best friend urged me to view 'Jacob's Ladder' after we had discussed philosophies of life and death. I remembered reading about Jacob's Ladder from the Bible 'Jacob's vision in which he saw a stairway from earth to Heaven with angels descending and ascending.' Little did I realize that this film was the reality.

This film is not like anything I have ever seen. It is a viscerally frightening film that kept me on the edge of my seat. It opens with a scene in the Mekong Delta. Jacob Singer, as played ... Read More

VHS : Meatballs
This should be or perhaps it is a cult classic. This is one of my favorite older movies. Bill Murray while he's no super funny in Meatballs, his humor shines along with the cast of mostly non-stars. Harvey Atkins is the Camp Director Morty (Not Mickey!) Melnick who tries to keep order at Camp North Star while at the same time his counselors and counselors-in-training (CIT's for short) keep their hormones and hijinks in check. Naturally the leader of his counselors on the male side is Tripper Harris (Bill Murray) and on the female side you have Roxanne who Trip loves but the feeling isn't mutual. Throw in the fact that Morty/Mickey constantly finds himself waking up in unpleasant fashion. Whether it's high on a tree (including his side table with his alarm clock) or floating on a raft on a lake out in the middle of nowhere. ... Read More

VHS : Dragonfly (2002)
Life is all about miracles like the one in this movie. I don't think we even realize they are happening. But sometimes, as for Dr. Darrow, we do get hit over the head. I loved this movie because it is not over the top supernatural. This is real stuff - moving gently beside us at times. Of course, Darrow got a real dose but it was necessary for him to listen. Life is magic, sometimes coming at us with a force we cannot control. Yet, this was still only a light paranormal glued together with depth. Kevin Costner was brilliant. Kathy Bates, she could act in my movie anytime if they ever make my novel into a movie. That too is a light supernatural. A Breath Floats By: An Illusion for the Soul What I enjoyed most about the movie is that it has not ceased to move me, I watched it in 2002, 2004 and again today 2008, feeling the same ... Read More

VHS : Happy Birthday To Me
In a private school called Crawford Academy. There is a group of rich and obnoxious teens calling themselves "The Top Ten". For reasons unknown, they begin to get knocked off one at a time. And it appears to be someone they know. Virginia Wainwright(Melissa Sue Anderson) visits a shrink due to weird episodes, which links to a traumatic event in her past. Perhaps, there is a connection here.

Well, it's obvious that by the end, "Happy Birthday To Me" has been part of the blueprint for numerous slashers concerning mystery. And I can see the reason why, even though it follows the formula of the basic slasher. The plot plays with the viewer giving your brain a decent work out. Predictability is not an issue. The only thing obvious is when deaths will occur. The plot contains twist towards the end to keep you in the dark. ... Read More

VHS : A Few Good Men
One of the more famous movie lines ever and it comes from a great movie. It is a courtroom drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It focuses on marines who are accused of murder but Tom Cruise's character takes up the case (not necessarily by choice) and argues that they were just acting on orders that they could not disobey. This is one of Jack Nicholson's best roles and he is believable in that role. I have seen this so many times and I do not get bored of it at all.

This is an amazing movie and I highly recommend it. The acting is fantastic and it never once gets boring or slow.
