VHS : White Christmas
I have loved this movie ever since I was a young kid. It is a classic. I watch it every Christmas season just to get me in the spirit. We rarely get snow in South Carolina, but it helps to remind me a bygone days. It's just a fun little movie with some classic actors and actresses that are gone to movie heaven...at least, I hope.

On Moonlight Bay

When I was a lot younger I watched this on tv and had been searching for it since. I think it was well made for that time period. Two people in love and how they have to deal with a father not wanting them together. I just love this movie. The music in it is wonderful also. It is so worth the price I paid to have it.

Dean Jones stars as office clerk and family man Johnny Baxter, a job-weary soul whose ship may have just come in. After being informed of an inheritance from a recently deceased, distant relative, Johnny immediately quits his job in a grand fashion and packs up his life and reluctant family to head for Colorado to run the Grand Imperial Hotel. Little does he know that the Grand Imperial is a dilapidated heap. In an effort to revitalize the place, Johnny and family, along with new friends Jesse and Wally, work to fix it up and soon find themselves in debt to a scheming banker (Disney baddie Keenan Wynn) who desires to own the property himself. The idea of turning the area into a ski resort gives the Baxters the needed inspiration to get things rolling, but luck just doesn't seem to be on their ... Read More

"The untold want by life and land ne'er granted,
Now, voyager, sail thou forth to seek and find."

~"The Untold Want" from Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass"

It is perhaps one of Bette Davis' best films, one in which she reputedly became quite caught up in the role, playing an active part in the production decisions. Perhaps that is why the sets, costumes, and screenplay, as well as the flawless acting, raise "Now, Voyager" above the soap operatic level to a serious drama exploring the psychological implications of certain moral decisions. Although Bette could be convincing as a Southern Belle, playing New England spinster Charlotte Vale, a Daughter of the Pilgrims, suited her mannerisms and natural accent impeccably. However, it is Bette's ability ... Read More

I finally gave up waiting for the DVD so I bought the VHS tape. It's a great story and the usual superb performance by Diane Lane. I have all of her movies that are available including three others only available on VHS (National Lampoon Goes to the Movies, Lady Beware, and Priceless Beauty). A movie can't possibly be bad if she's in it. Priceless Beauty came close but Ms. Lane managed to salvage even that one.

VHS : The Man Who Came to Dinner
Way back, long ago, well not too long, but it seems long enough to me now at the age of 40, I was in the onstage play "The Man Who Came To Dinner" in highschool. I played the "glamorous actress", Lorraine Sheldon...quite a meaty part, indeed. We were a huge hit, and this is one of the many shows I've done that clearly sticks out in my mind as one of the most fun to do. The character was a wonderful opportunity for a rather shy around guys young woman to really stretch as an actress, and it gave me a lot more confidence as a young woman and a young actress as a result of my performance. I do miss the stage, and hope to go back someday. This is a wonderfully written script, and the movie is delightful...these kinds of movies simply are not made anymore, where you see true comedic genius in all of its ... Read More
