I received my order in good time. I also enjoyed the movie. You can't go wrong with old-school Johnny Depp films. With that said, I have to mention that the dvd would occasionally freeze up while it was changing chapters. It wouldn't skip, but it was rather annoying for it to freeze up like that for several seconds. It probably has to do with the manufacturing quality. The dvd I received was probably an older one, because newer dvds aren't supposed to freeze up like that when they change chapters.

VHS : Some Kind of Wonderful
As a 17 year old high school senior, I often wish I would have grown up in the time my parents did, simply for all the awesome movies like Some Kind of Wonderful. For as long as I can remember I've been watching Pretty in Pink and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, as well as any other 80s teen movies I can get my hands on. For some reason, I had never seen Some Kind of Wonderful until recently when I went to Target and was in awe to see an 80s section of dvds. Some Kind of Wonderful is comparable to Pretty In Pink, and is an extremely good movie that teenagers, no matter what decade they were born in, whether it be the 60s or the 90s, can relate to.

VHS : Chances Are
As romanatic comedies go--this is one of the best. I don't normally care for this genre, but I'll make an exception for "Chances Are". The film is well paced and the casting is perfect--in particular for Robert Downey Jr.--you can't imagine anyone else playing his role.

I almost did not purchase the DVD, thinking the transfer to DVD would be a grainy, letter-boxed, disappointing mess--not true! The transfer to DVD of this 1989 movie is quite good--anamorphic widescreen (and enhanced for 16x9 large screen TVs--so that the picture fills the entire screen--no annoying little letterbox!) with vivid colors and good sound. Although the plot involves rather serious events (death and reincarnation), the movie is quite funny--and clean--good for the entire family. This is one you will watch again and ... Read More

VHS : At Close Range
"At Close Range" is a classic example of a movie in which all aspects of the filmmaker's art shine; if it isn't already, it should be required viewing for students in film schools. First of all, the Kazan script, which details the growing into manhood of the Sean Penn character, skillfully combines the luridly violent with the ultimately noble, its resolution having Penn, without his becoming a goody two-shoes, credibly endorse the virtues of the civilized over the flashy and brutish.

The color photography, unexpected in a neo-noir film, works remarkably well as it turns out, being consistently beautiful (in the rural landscapes) and imaginative (for example, in its scenes of the gang members marching single file, silhouetted against a dusky sky.) Each image in the film appears to have been composed with great ... Read More

What a great acting job by a young man named Jimmy Shea, who played Marty. Some would call it the role of a lifetime. Bravo Jimbo, bravo!
