I have watched this movie many times. I am very intrigued by the acting and how it different it compares to today's acting, the runway show, the styles, everything. Although, I'm pretty sure if my hubby cheated on me, we'd be done...otherwise, this is a movie right? I loved it!

VHS : Pride and Prejudice
Having read the book (one of my favorites), I just can't stomach this film. What really turned me off was the depiction of Lady Catherine. In the book, that character is never reconciled to the marriage of Darcy and Elizabeth. And where did they get the idea for the archery scene? Certainly not from the book. If you haven't read the book, you might find it entertaining; but for anyone who loves the book, this film just doesn't do it justice.

I have the BBC version and the A&E version. I have not seen the version made this century. Of the two that I have, I would say that the A&E version is the most complete. The BBC version is very good but when the story gets to it's climax, it is rushed to completion as if the writer or editor were trying to wrap-up the story quickly due to time constraints. ... VHS : Ruggles of Red Gap
Charles Laughton is sublime as Marmaduke Ruggles, long time British manservant to the Earl of Burnstead in the delightful comedy "Ruggles Of Red Gap. After years of servility Ruggles' services are won as a result of a poker bet to Egbert Floud of Red Gap, Washington played by Charlie Ruggles. Floud, a throwback to the days of the old West, is being cultured and refined while in Paris by his wife Effie played by a haughty and domineering Mary Boland.

The plan is for Ruggles to accompany the Flouds back to Red Gap. With much hidden trepidation, the genteel Laughton assents to his new assignment in the frontier like Red Gap. Egbert, who is not used to the idea of servitude treats Laughton with cordiality and equality which is unfamiliar to him.

When they arrive in Red Gap, Egbert's friendly ... Read More

Love this movie. I had seen it once, years ago, and kept looking for it on DVD [It's STILL not on DVD for some reason.]. I couldn't remember the title, only that one should NEVER put bridesmaids in CYCLAMEN PINK!!!!!!! It's one nutty thing after another with a happy ending for all .. except maybe Grandma and Cesar Romero. Enjoy!! . . and beware the cyclamen pink!!!!!!!

I rather like this one.Stan and Ollie's bond with King Christopher is very touching.Mary Boland is quite memorable too.Ollie seemed to be less aggresive with Stan than usual. The scene at the zoo is a riot.My favourite part would probably be where Stan and Ollie hang onto the window ledge with Stan screaming his head off in terror. And I like how the openning and closing credits for most of their 40s films feature little cartoon figures of the duo themselves.

Note: Because there is a twin-pack that offers both the 1934 W.C. Fields film "Six of a Kind" and his classic 1940 film "The Bank Dick," the reviews for those two movies, both together and individually, are all cross-referenced. However, this is just a review of "Six of a Kind," the lesser known of the two Fields films.

Directed by Leo McCarey, "Six of a Kind" finds J. Pinkham Whinney (Charlie Ruggles) and his wife Flora (Mary Boland), planning a second honeymoon in Hollywood, California. They advertise for a couple to share expenses on the trip and end up with not only George Edward (George Burns) and Gracie DeVore (Gracie Allen), but their gigantic Great Dane. Meanwhile, Ferguson (Bradley Page), one of the other clerks at the bank where Whinney works has put $50,000 into the unsuspecting man's suitcase intending to rob ... Read More
