VHS : Little Women (1949)
The movie arrived in good condition and quickly. The only problem was, I had ordered the older version of the movie (1949), not the 1994 version.

Of all the Technicolor shows created "for the boys" in WW II, this is the most insipid. Aside from Kelly's mop/broom dance and Lena Horne, this is a real yawner. Rooney (who must be the last survivor) does some memorable impressions, and the latin dance number is fun. The rest is useless plot, third-rate actors, and lifeless productions.

If you want to see the gold standard of this genre, try The Gang's All Here. Be sure you look for the 1943 musical, not the 1941 film noir of the same name.

4.Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte starring: Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, Joseph Cotten, Agnes Moorehead, Cecil Kellaway

Do not be fooled because it is an old movie. This is just an old black and white but it will thrill your mind. You will never figure out who did it. It is about the only movie I ever saw where Bruce Dern plays a decent guy. He is usually a bad guy and does a good job with that role. In this movie, he is a nice, clean-cut, guy.

VHS : The Maltese Falcon
"The Maltese Falcon" is a great movie because of its great actors and tight dialogue. Bogart, as the cynical but ultimately ultramoral, Sam Spade, is great as are his antitheses, Peter Lorre, Sidney Greenstreet and Mary Astor. Spade is suckered by a beautiful woman [Astor] into what turns out to be the criminal enterprise of locating the 'Maltese Falcon', a ceramic bird worth millions. Men and women fight and die to gain its possession.

The plot is convoluted but convincing and, finally, after the murder of several illicit wealth-seekers, the Falcon is located it and is found to be a phony. The cops lead the beautiful Astor who, while still proclaiming her 'love' for Bogart, off to her well-deserved punishment. Bogart, as Spade, has the opportunity to set her free but...does the ... The Art of Storytelling: How To Write A Story....Any Story
Shadow Watcher
Nobody Drowns in Mineral Lake

Mitchell Leisen directed MIDNIGHT (1939), another delightful screwball comedy of "misunderstandings," written by Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder.

Set in Paris, Claudette Colbert stars as a penniless showgirl who pretends to be a Hungarian countess in order to better her lifestyle. She has the financial help of aristocrat John Barrymore, who wants her to woo the attentions of Francis Lederer, an interloper trying to steal Barrymore's wife (Mary Astor).

Claudette agrees to the plan, but then she has to deal with the man she really loves, cab driver Don Ameche, particularly after he shows up unannounced at a formal function pretending to be the Hungarian count ... Read More

VHS : Prisoner of Zenda (1937)
This has always been for me the definitive Zenda film. With a great cast of actors, great adventure story and an ill fated romance. What more could one ask.
