If you're a race fan this is the movie to have. Forget about those hi-strung imports, this one is All American muscle. I have watched it over and over, it never gets old. My blood pumps a little faster every time I see it.

VHS : Treasure Planet (Walt Disney Pictures Presents)
I know this was a box office bomb, but being the Treasure Island fanatic that I am I could not help but love it for its wildly creative retelling and the wonderful animation and spirit. I think that this film truly captured the emotional wonder of Robert Louis Stevenson's original story, if not the details (Then again, not too many movies exactly get the book correct). The soundtrack is incredible, perfectly piratey. The entire story is one of longing, angst, and change. So it may be a little moody, but it's a beautiful peace of art and Disney magic.

If you enjoy movies about bone-deep lies and deception, where you do not know until the very end what really happened (and even then you have some lingering doubts), then you will love this movie. The acting is top-notch and the writing terrific: every line of dialogue is significant, but, of course, you don't know why until much later.

If you liked The Manchurian Candidate (Special Edition), Nine Queens, The Usual Suspects (Special Editon) or Diabolique (Criterion Collection Spine #35), this one is for you.

VHS : Insomnia
Insomnia is already one of the best films of the year. Chris Nolan who brought has the excellent Memento follows up with this brilliant film. Al Pachino is great in the lead role but the scene stealer here is Robin Williams. When you see the film you'll know what I mean. I won't go into the plot all I'm saying is go see it

I loved this movie - it brings us back to simpler times and GREAT music. It's definetly a refreshing change from the movies of today. I love the cast in this, and it was great to see REO Speedwagon appear. The movie's worth it just to see the talented and gorgeous Gary Richrath!

This movie is available on DVD in Region 4 (Australia, New Zealand) and I picked it up from an online retailer to play in my region-free player. What a fortuitous choice.
It was funny to watch a young Jay Leno and Louis Jourdan was a good choice to play a down on his luck Italian count, but what really made this movie for me was Michael Caine playing it both ruthless and charming.
The movies plot follows Caine's idea of having the American Mafia buy a bank in Switzerland with which to launder money. All seems to be going as planned until he arrives in Geneva and things start to unravel.
Thinking on his feet Caine and his chums decide to make the best of their situation and in the process of turning things around become entangled in a silver smuggling operation, an unscrupulous banker (played by Joss Ackland), ... Read More

So in the big climatic scene, we are treated to shameless advertising for Mountain Dew and Pepsi. WOW. How lame can a movie get? If Pepsi really wanted to add to its sales, they should have put up billboards for Coke, because this movie did nothing to encourage me to be associated with any products protrayed in it. This was one baaaad file. The stunts were so weak that they looked like they were rejected from the video game. The back flip off one bike to land on another? lol. The martial arts while riding at 200 miles an hour? hahaha. The plot? Can't tell you. I couldn't make heads or tails out of the sorry mess of a plot except when the hero pulled the misunderstood bad guy off the tracks before the train got there. How telegraphed was that? How original! I guess if you're 14 years old or younger this might be kind of a cool ... Read More
