VHS : Jim Henson Muppets: The Christmas Toy
This would be a wonderful addition to a Christmas movie collection that I wish they would release on DVD as well as re-releasing The Muppet Family Christmas. I am not willing to pay $[...] for the out of print dvd but I would love to have it. This title has never been released on DVD and with all the crap that Disney puts out I'm appauled that they don't release something as charming and quality as this. Its classic Henson and will always have a place in my heart!

2.Valley of Decision starring: Greer Garson, Gregory Peck, Donald Crisp, Lionel Barrymore, Preston Foster

We very much enjoyed this movie. Gregory Peck is a strong actor in this movie, as he was in his other movies. It follows the family business via the one adult child in the family actively involved. Highly recommend.

VHS : Pride and Prejudice
Having read the book (one of my favorites), I just can't stomach this film. What really turned me off was the depiction of Lady Catherine. In the book, that character is never reconciled to the marriage of Darcy and Elizabeth. And where did they get the idea for the archery scene? Certainly not from the book. If you haven't read the book, you might find it entertaining; but for anyone who loves the book, this film just doesn't do it justice.

I have the BBC version and the A&E version. I have not seen the version made this century. Of the two that I have, I would say that the A&E version is the most complete. The BBC version is very good but when the story gets to it's climax, it is rushed to completion as if the writer or editor were trying to wrap-up the story quickly due to ... Read More

Great movie and Wayne and Loren really click. I wish they would have made a couple of more movies with the two of them in it. Came fast in great shape

Or better yet, having a Greer Garson DVD set with this, Mrs. Parkington, Valley of Decision, Julia Misbehaves and The Miniver Story.

VHS : Johnny Got His Gun
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's about a young American soldier named Johnny who gets hit by a shell on the last day of the First World War. Johnny lies in a hospital bed, a quadruple amputee who has lost his eyes, ears, mouth and nose. His only means of communication is by banging his head against his pillow. As the movie progresses you get inside Johnny's head by means of a series of flashbacks and fantasy sequences. We learn about Johnny's failed shoe salesman father, his first, and last night with the woman he loves, his pre war job in the local bakery. I was so moved by the nurse in the movie. She finds a way to communicate with Johnny and her kindness to him should inspire us all. So, what's this movie all about? Well it's a damning indictment of war, obviously, and a strange one at that. But it's ... Read More

I saw this movie a few months ago and parts of it stay with me. I thought it was a nice attempt to summerize the moods, trials, and perspectives of the folks at home during WWII. In attempting such a bold purpose, it takes a few liberties. Unfortunately, those liberties have tended to stay with me longer than the rest of the movie. One of the artistic licenses was a drive through the park on a Sunday afternoon. As our characters drive along, they pass one ethnic group after another; each doing their own cultural "thing" often in their unique cultural dress. The message is meant to be about America welcoming all groups into embrace but it's hard not to notice, from 60 years down the road, how nobody seems to be assimulating and none are interacting with each other.

The other artistic liberty was the portrayal ... Read More

VHS : Howling 2
Apparently, there was something much worse than Hard Rock Zombies, which thanks to this, is now #3 on my worst movies list (It used to be #1 btw. Howling 4 is still the second worse. Read my review on that for more details.) And like I said in my Howling 4 review, just because that was awful didn't mean I would be put off from finishing off the series, but now that I've stumbled upon this abomination, I'm becoming more reluctant. Remember back in the 80s when VHS covers where awesome and imaginative? Yeah. Howling II had a very awesome cover for when it was first released on home video in the 1980s, and to be truthful, for 8 years, I had been wanting to see this movie, especially since the movie's theme song got stuck in my head. Then in 2005, it finally came out on DVD, uncut (The original VHS was cut, from what I understand.) Unfortunately, ... Read More
