VHS : Star Wars Trilogy (Special Edition)
With Episode 2 currently in the theaters, and many people complaining about how shallow that movie is, and how unbelievable the story and how much better the original trilogy was etc, I think it's time to make a comment. First of all, Star Wars movies have NEVER,EVER,EVER had a good story. They're basically about the age-old tale of good vs. evil, set in various locations in a galaxy far far away. The plot is usually full of holes, the whole thing often depends on extreme coincidences and every Imperial superweapon has a verious obvious flaw that any apprentice engineer could have found in five minutes. This movie, Episode 4, is probably the most basic of them all. The main point is, Star Wars was never SUPPOSED to be about the story. It's basically a lot of (brilliant) nonsense put together, ... VHS : Star Wars Trilogy
The original Star Wars trilogy will always stand in first place for my sci-fi loving heart, when it comes to classic, wonderfully told space adventure. The special effects were groundbreaking at the time, and today, are just as powerful, though we would do them differently now. The characters are multi-dimensional, and the story of good vs. evil is masterfully played out. For anyone who loves sci-fi, this needs to be at the top of the list.

VHS : Star Wars - Episode VI, Return of the Jedi (Special Edition)
Return of the Jedi is yet another masterpiece and a fitting conclusion to the original saga.
The usual, great script, great fx, good acting.
LOVE Luke's new green lightsaber.
Vader truly makes his feelings known in this one.
The emperor couldn't have been any better.
All in all one of the best films ever.
What I didn't like were the teddy bears!!!
Lucas wanted Wookies originally, I agree, the Ewoks suck.
Since Lucas has tinkered with the original three endlessly, why not take the teddy bears out and put Wookies in???
Just a suggestion.

Otherwise, another must see/must have.

VHS : Joseph - King of Dreams
Firstly, the animation, musicianship and general production of this DVD was top quality. My son (3) was captivated by the story. I must say also that, for all of the other animated Biblical stories out there, the production quality is in the top 1%. However...

There is a "disclaimer" at the beginning of this dvd which states roughly that they took some artistic liberties with the story but they felt that they kept to the intent or them of the Word.

I disagree.
1) The producers of this animation added items that were not part of the original story (i.e. Joseph's very first dream is about wolves chasing and killing a sheep)
2) They also left out some intricacies which, in my opinion would have added to the story (Completely absent from the story is that Jospeh's mother died ... Read More

VHS : Balto II - Wolf Quest
We like Balto 2 a lot -- even without having seen Balto 1. Our local library only has Balto 2. But we have watched it probably about 8 times by now, and it holds her attention every time. I find it a lot less annoying than most kids animated movies (such as most Disney). It does have some pretty scary scenes, which young kids will definitely need some kind of adult guidance to work through -- for instance, a bear with red eyes suddenly appears and attacks Alue; and there are some fierce wolves, both spirit wolves and real wolves. You need to judge whether your child is ready for the idea that the world can be scary. I don't think it's more scary than, say, Malificent in Sleeping Beauty, and actually I think it's less scary than Snow White, which I haven't yet let my daughter watch; or Dumbo, which I hate. The ... Read More

VHS : Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back (Special Edition)
I remember going to see THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK for the first time in 1980. I was 5 years old. I remember hearing the voice of Yoda and exclaiming, "That's Grover!" (i.e. Sesame Street). And it was (Frank Oz).

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK has always been my favorite of the original trilogy. I think it must be because the movie slows down alot. I love the action and excitement as much as the next STAR WARS fan, but it creates a wonderful balance to have a middle film where we can stop, catch our breath and gear up for the big finale.

I'm very glad Lucasfilm has finally released the original trilogy onto DVD. I've seen many complaints about the lack of quality in the transfer. I guess I've gotten so used to those "Special Editions" that I have failed to see the difference.

But on that subject, ... Read More

VHS : Batman Beyond - Return of the Joker
I've been a Batman fan ever since I was in diapers. When the Beyond series started, I was a little hesitant and didn't think it'd be that good until I learned it was from the same guys who did the animated series before and my hope was raised a little and after watching the first two episodes that started the show off, it became my favorite Batman show. Then when this first came out, I rented it immediately and watched it several times. I bought this because I had been searching for the uncut edition ever since I heard about it. At first, I didn't see what was so different about the movie I loved and watched like crazy when I was younger. But then it got to ***SPOILER ALERT*** scene where Joker was showing Batman what he did Robin and I'll be honest, I was a little disturbed. "You'd have been so proud to of seen him fight", Joker said as he put ... Read More
