My students really enjoyed this movie. We had read the book as a class and discussed it in detail. They all could not wait to see the movie when we finished. There were characters that they hated and characters that they loved. Over all, this movie was great! Thank you for such quick delivery of this product. Henrietta Presley

Definitely strange, interesting and fun!!! Very unique idea for a film!!!

This movie is for the "COMPLEX THINKER" or the "DYSLEXIC MIND" ...few can put this movie together in less than 2 or 3 viewings. This film literally runs forward from the end of the movie yet backwards at the same time; adding supposed real-time moments where the main character is on the phone or reminiscing about things he remembers before his assault.

Strangely enough, I got this movie the first time viewing it!! Hm?

To fully get this award winning "never been done before" storyline you'll quickly discover that you're viewing the movie in reverse while the chapter's (scene's) are running forward... maybe better said as, "The last scene/end of the movie is run forward first as the ... Read More

Action movies are only as good as their villains. Heroics require really nasty bad guys.

Gene Hackman skillfully portrays an antagonist so mean you know he'd kill his own son. Sharon Stone, for the most part, credibly plays the protagonist, but her motivation for revenge seems filched from Harmonica in Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West.

The remaining cast of bad guys are cartoonish and the plot stretches credulity beyond the limits, but fine acting and a unique premise work to make this an engaging film.

It also fun to watch Leonardo Di Caprio and Russell Crowe in secondary roles before they could demand eight figure salaries per movie.

Malik's epic anti-war treatise is less effective on repeat and its pitch at the sublime is best savoured on big-screen theatre darkness to work its magic. Much of the necessary swatches of sky through tree canopy, macro nature, and shifting light over sussurating grasses, the ephphanies experienced from the Christ-like Caviezel used to counter the violence of combat terror, is lost on small format. Initially, the film moved me. Now, and with the pretentious,'New World', added to Malik's oeuvre, I side with those who experience tedium, while holding that it is an incomparably better film. The lack of character development is essential to the director's overview; their parts clearly serve the director's philosophy. Yet there are stunning cameo roles from Nolte, Penn, and Cavizel. It is one of the few war ... Read More

There are many weak moments here, in writing, acting and directing. At first the script is decent and the actors ok, but the director was bringing nothing to the table. Then the writing and acting start to falter, but the director begins warming to his task (maybe realizing this film has NO HEART) and tries to spice things up with a few nice shots and starts blocking scenes more wisely. By the end, however, the mish-mash nature of it all took me nowhere.
There's not one character to care about, which is what makes crime dramadies worth seeing: feeling for people you normally could not. But here everyone is unsavory and if I don't like even one character, why should I care what happens to them? [spoiler coming] That they all die but one or two makes it even less pleasant.
The only highlights for me were ... Read More

VHS : Sketch Artist
Jeff Fahey is the sketch artist. A rich, important man has been murdered and Drew Barrymore is a witness who saw a woman that the police would like to talk to. She describes the woman to Fahey. As the sketch continues he finds he is drawing a picture of his wife (Sean Young). Daisy leaves, he folds up the picture and draws another which unfortunately looks like another woman who has done work for the deceased. As the story unfolds, Fahey is starting to look like the number one suspect. I wouldn't rate this show a "4" if it wasn't for the excellent musical score by Mark Isham. The soundtrack to this movie is one of the best. This story couldn't happen in real life. For one thing, Fahey withheld evidence in a felony investigation that got Daisy killed and should be charged with a felony himself. Fahey also gets ... Read More

Buscemi is such an underrated actor, and here we have his writing and directing debut which is pretty darn good too. He plays Tommy, a listless barfly that can't escape his shady past. Some pisspoor ethical choices have cost him his job, girlfriend, and any sense of direction or solidarity. So he spends an ample amount of time at the local watering hole, temporarily diluting his demons while his soul slowly unravels.
Life always presents temptations, choices, and consequences. Sometimes they are sexy and seventeen-years-old (Chloe Sevigny). Oh, the plot thickens. Alcohol rarely makes you any wiser, unfortunately.
I actually expected a much more darker depiction of drunken debauchery and alcoholic drudgery, like in Leaving Las Vegas or Factotum. Buscemi isn't merely trying to shock though, he's trying ... Read More
