VHS : The Ma & Pa Kettle Collection: The Egg and I
This warm and funny account of a newly married couple trying to make a go of it on a backwoods chicken farm, based on Betty MacDonald's popular best seller, was a big hit with audiences during the 1940's and has lost none of its appeal today. This is a great film the entire family can watch together. Chester Erskine produced, directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Fred F. Finklehoffe in this hilarious and heartwarming film all will enjoy.

Claudettle Colbert is wonderful as the shocked but game Betty when on her honeymoon her husband Bob (Fred MacMurray) informs her he has quit his brokerage house job and bought a chicken farm in the country. She figures things could be worse, and they are, as their farm is a ramshackle old place that fights back! After all, there's not another ... Read More

VHS : Dark Command (Colorized)
After Wayne hit the jackpot in John Ford's groundbreaking Western STAGECOACH (1939) he was quickly reunited with his co-star Claire Trevor in ALLEGHENY UPRISING (1939) and again here in the DARK COMMAND (1940). Directed by Raoul Walsh, the man who incidentally gave young Michael Morrison his first starring role as a very young "John Wayne" in THE BIG TRAIL (1929) but it was a box office failure and Wayne was relegated to mainly B-Westerns until rescued by John Ford.

The fact based story is from the period starting just before the outbreak of the American Civil War depicting growing tensions on the Kansas Missouri border leading up to the infamous William Quantrill and his guerrillas burning down the town of Laurence, Kansas on August 21 1863. Based on the novel by W R Burnett Will Cantrill ... Read More

VHS : The Long, Long Trailer
This is one of my favorite all time films. Definitely the best movie ever starring Lucille Ball. I am a long time Lucy fan, but that being said even if you didn't enjoy her television shows, this movie is a comedy film that should appeal to about anyone. None of the slapstick humor and dizzy redhead stuff you might imagine there to be. Lucy and Desi tie the knot and buy a long trailer house with all the modern features of the day. They set out as honeymooners Nicky and Tacy, off to introduce Nicky to Tacy's family. A lot of weird stuff happens on their journey to make this a long long honeymoon which just might bring a few second thoughts about ever having gotten married. I highly recommend this one to anyone. All the professionalism you have come to expect from these two hollywood moguls. A very delightful film and very well done in ... Read More

Forgot how funny these movies were. The innocence of the time.
Why can't we make movies today like this.

VHS : The Further Adventures of "Ma & Pa Kettle"
This is he first starring role for Ma & Pa Kettle, but not the first film they appeared in. The very first film Majorie Main and Percy Kilbride as "Ma & Pa Kettle", along with Richard Long was in the film "The Egg And I" (1947). They were only minor characters in the film, but made such an impact and was considered so down-home funny that it was decided they should be given a movie of their own. Thus "Ma & Pa Kettle" (1949) was made. In fact, they made eight more films to follow. The films are quite wholesome and Ma & Pa Kettle living on the farm, I'm sure you will enjoy the country-life humor. Ma & Pa Kettle didn't always stay on the farm. They did go to the fair and traveled to the city and even Hawaii. In this film, they finally get to move into a new model home. Wait until you see all the fancy stuff this house ... Read More

I have watched this movie many times. I am very intrigued by the acting and how it different it compares to today's acting, the runway show, the styles, everything. Although, I'm pretty sure if my hubby cheated on me, we'd be done...otherwise, this is a movie right? I loved it!

VHS : Too Hot to Handle (1938)
Another great Gable flick, this one with Myrna Loy (the Queen of Hollywood, to Gable's King). Clark plays a ruthless newsreel photographer trying to stick it to rival Walter Pidgeon and woo Amelia Earhart-style aviatrix Myrna. Fast, funny, and politically incorrect. Did I mention fast?

VHS : Summer Stock
"Summer Stock" has always been one of my favorite movies. Because it's the type of old movie that everyone can enjoy. There's singing and dancing and lots of laughs and drama and theatrics. In this picture Miss Judy Garland (may she rest in peace) stars as Jane Falbury, a farmer who reluctantly allows a theater company to stay on at her farm to rehearse for their big performance. I know the story is a little hockey, but does that matter, really?

This is the very first time I ever saw a picture with Mr. Gene Kelly (playing the male lead, Joe Ross) and he was absolutely perfect. Anyone could tell that there was a lot of magic and chemistry between him and Miss Garland because when they were on the screen together it was always amazing to watch.

My favorite part in the movie is at the end when Jane does her big "Get Happy" ... Read More

EVEN THOUGH PA IS NOT PERCY I FIGURED IT WOULD STILL BE NICE TO SEE THE GOOD OLD FUNNY FAMILY THAT LOVES EACHOTHER UNCONDITIONALLY ANYHOW. IT RUBBED ME WRONG TO SEE OLD MA GIVE PA THE BOOT. IT WASN'T IN THE NORM FOR THE WELL KNOWN AND LOVED MA ND PA MOVIES. I THINK IT HAD FUNNY PARTS IN IT, BUT ITS A GOOD 45 MINUTES INTO THE MOVIE BEFORE IT GETS FUNNY. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THERE BEST ONES IF YOU WANT THE TRUTH.
