This movie is perfect in every way.The cinematography is absolutely hypnotic. The performances are brilliantly subtle, yet powerful. It is an excellent study of passion, jealousy and desperation. Each scene is so multilayered, that upon repeated viewing it could never be boring. The musical score is a beautiful accompaniment, greatly adding to the feel of the movie.I highly recommend this movie to anyone, but I especially think of it being a great experience for anyone who is interested in increasing their knowledge of great filmakers like Luchino Visconti.

VHS : Love on a Pillow
A young woman named Genevieve Le Theil (Brigitte Bardot) while on a trip to Dijon to claim an inheritance accidently opens the wrong hotel door and finds a man named Renaud Sarti (Robert Hossein) lying unconscious on a bed. He has attempted suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills. Her intervention saves his life.

One would think he would be grateful and perhaps fall in love with his beautiful benefactress. What happens is just the opposite. She falls into a kind of obsessive, almost masochistic, love with him, but all he feels for her is indifference. He spends her money, drinks to excess, abuses her verbally and emotionally. But she can't let him go regardless of what he does. Yes, this is a familiar premise, and frankly I would not have stuck around long enough to ... Read More

Warning: I'm a spoiler type reviewer from time to time, when my reviews take on specific aspects of the plot, so be forewarned.

Try as I might, I just simply couldn't get into this one. Perhaps it was the washed out tones; perhaps it was the drawn-out approach--I'm not really sure, but though this was by no means a "bad" movie, I didn't really find it to be very much of an "effective" movie (words that I understand are so much more arbitrary than their common uses).

So, basically, the deal here is that a series of adolescent boys' deaths sets off an investigation and anxiety in a small provincial town, triggering a witch hunt. What do the boys' death have to do with the mysterious, sexy woman who has appeared in town? Is the crazy hermit woman involved? Is it voodoo? ... Read More

I'm not a big fan of French films. I only got this because it featured Bond girls Claudine Auger (THUNDERBALL) and Barbara Bach (SPY WHO LOVED ME). Bach only has a small part, mostly in French, a little English, and I'm not sure if she dubbed her own voice. But both women look nice.

It's an odd story, but in the usual French way. A journalist visits his sister in a small town outside Paris. Auger sees him at a party, and falls in love at first sight. She's already married, but in typical French fashion, it's no big deal. The journalist is already living with Bach, and he dumps her in casual fashion.

So the journalist and Auger have an affair, with some pointless scenes and padded dialogue along the way. He asks her to marry him, but though she loves him, she says marriage is ... Read More

Read More
