When i watched this, I was pleasantly surprised to find it was still as funny as I remembered it to be. When I was younger, I was a fan of the Francis films, and watched whenever they came on TV back in the Fifties.When I found this one,it was like discovering an old friend and finding that though times had changed,it didn't lessen my appreciation for the films-or my enjoyment when I saw them again.

Clint Eastwood on automatic pilot is a lot better than some peoples best films, so make no mistake this may be the worst film ever that he directed himself but its still pretty good. In fact for me it would have been 3.5 stars. Its really a Dirty Harry film under another name, and with a decent cast including the always watchable Charlie Sheen its an easy way to pass an hour and a half. There are a couple of laugh out loud moments, especially the seat belt gag. Of course the reason to watch the film is the man himself. Aged 61 when this was made he was still in top shape and is effortlessly cool throughout the film. Well organized DVD, packed with extras. Dirty Harry series is something I grew up with, I never knew the essence in Eastwood's mind for continuing it. Extras include much thought and critical POV. Makes me feel like I'm part of this film and series.

I've loved "The Gauntlet" from the first time I saw it many years ago. I was very happy when it was released on Blu-ray, as I felt that the original DVD released was in need of a few improvements. The picture looks very good, but I was not happy with the audio. For all the bullets that are flying, and for all the noisy destruction that takes place throughout this wonderful movie, the Blu-ray audio doesn't do it justice. I expected more surround and, frankly, more noise and aural mayhem, but the disc just didn't quite have these things, and that's a shame. I'm still happy that I bought it, but I'm a bit disappointed with the sound.

What horror lurks deep beneath a volcano? At least in Mexico, the answer is giant scorpions! Another great classic movie with the giant monsters running amok, eating people, causing great distruction, and then walla! the hero (and usually scientist) comes to the rescue of not only killing off the beasts, but winning the woman at the same time. These old classics are corny by todays standards and special affects, but you can't beat them. These giant scorpions are pretty decent for the clay / stop action photography of the time, and there are even a few other interesting beasts under the volcano like giant worms, and some other bug that chases the little stow-away boy. Just love the sounds they have also as giant critters...makes me wonder if they make sounds now but we just can't hear them cause they're too small....lol ... Read More
