This was my intro to the band as a young teen in the 80's. It's a wonderful film and documentary, that really gives a full story of the band from beginning to end. Really get a glimpse into the personalities and the music's creative process. Good clips of interviews, and music performances/videos. Great choice of songs throughout, not just the hits (such as Tomorrow Never Knows, Why don't we do it in the road, Love you too, Day in the Life), even though they are usually shortened snippets. Small complaint, but I just wish it had some of the Paperback Writer video because I love that song, but so many great ones are here.... blackbird, I am the Walrus, fool on the hill, I'm a loser, etc etc. Again they are usually partial songs, but they fit in alot throughout, and it does not seem slighted ... Ugh! This is one of the worst Disney movies of all time, and that's no lie! I mean, the plot is dumb and the characters are so retarded! This is just STUPID!!! Disney needs to stop making their made-for-televion movies, because they suck!

GULAG (1985)
directed by Roger Young
approx. 2 hours

An American athlete staying in the Soviet Union is thrown into a prison camp on frivolous charges. He befriends some Russian prisoners but is seperated from them and placed in a section of the camp for foreign prisoners. He attempts to devise an escape plan even though most of his peers say it is impossible.

This movie shows the effect that incarceration can have on someone- it can mold you into a dismal inanimate object or it will make you thirst for freedom. Many of the gulag prisoners wanted to be free but convinced themselves that it could never happen. The British prisoner (played by Malcolm McDowell) starts off by bullying the American prisoner and ridiculing his optimism, but later becomes a close friend. ... Read More

It is one of those movies to watch when you have a Short-Attention-Span day. Don't analyze, just enjoy the occasional silly joke. And do not worry if you miss any part of the movie. You get used to it, it seems better the 2nd time.

It may be that I am in the very minority of people if I state that Star Trek Generations is far and away the best of the Next Gen films and one of the best of the overall series. I may be in the minority to talk about its philosophical themes that are all over the place in all the right places. It may be I'm the only person who sees this film as a philosophy piece like Blade Runner. But that's what I see it as. And though this film is definitely not as well-directed or well-made as the aforementioned Ridley Scott classic, the themes and astounding philosophical musings are very similar.

'Star Trek: Generations' deals with the themes of time, humanity, happiness, and obsession. The film revolves around a scientist of the name Dr. Tolian Soran (portrayed by Malcom McDowell of 'A Clockwork Orange') who ... Read More

Well it has been many years since I saw this film but I loved it every time I saw it. Pretty sure I caught it on the big screen and then later on HBO or TV and maybe even rented once or twice. Now I'm going to buy this DVD and enjoy it many more times. Like the other person says, great acting, and story. Keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way. Just get this film and you will enjoy it.

Forewarned is forearmed. I read several reviews of this movie, before I watched it, that cautioned me it would be disapointing. The reviewers, without saying so in as many words, let me know that this movie was low budget when filmed. I must add that many folks at home could reproduce all the action seen in this movie with a couple of video cameras and two VCRs.
Now, having understood all that, I watched the flick with a strong intent to laugh at its sad quality. Rather like one would with "The Rocky Horrer Picture Show." It worked.
I roared with delight as the undead knight sliced a large chunk from a huge boulder with a swipe of his deadly blade, yet his blows were blocked by six inch diameter saplings. I huffed along with Lancellot as the lanky youth bent iron bars with his feet while hanging upside ... Read More

Don't listen to those bad reviews. They don't know what they're talking about.

But yes, this is a very good movie. I still own the VHS in a beta form. As a matter of fact, I got an e-mail from one of the stars. His name is John Leamer and he was an American actor living in Italy around the time this was made.
