VHS : Harry Potter & Sorcerer's Stone
I still remember the day the first Harry Potter movie came out in the mall. I was nearby the movie theater entrance when I heard a voice say "The Harry Potter movies first showing is starting now" than I saw a mob of elementary school kids rampaging their way to the theater and I was in their way. After the dvd came out I decided to buy it just to see what the excitement was all about and I was astonished at how much I enjoyed the movie. After that I decided to but the first book and have since gotten the entire seven books of Harry Potter as well as the five movies that have so far been made. The first blur-ray dvd video and audio isn't to much better than the standard version. Some of the background is a little clearer and sharper but in all not to much of a difference and the same ... VHS : Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
After the phenomenal success of J.K. Rowling's first four Harry potter novels and the first Harry potter film, there was no doubt that the boy wizard would be returning to the big screen. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, we are given a darker tale that explores the pasts of Hogwarts' students and professors. It was with this story that author J.K Rowling first began to experience a backlash from more conservative parents. Most were disturbed by the themes of death and violence, which Rowling insisted was her way of being more realistic and that by including these themes her books would be grounded in a universal reality. However some parents did not accept her explanation. They even went so far as to suggest that Satanism and a belief in witchcraft inspired the Harry Potter books and films. ... Read More

Very funny comedy from the 1970s and I liked it even more now that I'm more familiar with the characters being parodied. Acting is fantastic - great ensemble cast and great sight gags. Well worth the cost of the DVD; wish they made them this funny nowadays.

VHS : Tea With Mussolini
Tea with Mussolini is loosely based on a biography of film maker Franco Zeffrelli. It's the story of several English women, referred to as the Scorpioni who live in Florence, Italy. They are all in love with Italy and happily take advantage of the great art and beauty of Florence. It's home to them!

The ladies have a small close community and a few of them become involved with Luca, who is the illegitimate son of a local man. After his mother dies, he's placed in an orphanage. The ladies are Mary (Joan Plowright), Arabella (Judi Dench) and Hester ( Maggie Smith), and all help to care for the boy in some way. Because Hester is the widow of an English statesman, she tries to dominate the other ladies, but they can usually ignore her snobbish ways. The English ladies are also assisted by two American friends. Elsa ... Read More

I am a true-blood, die-hard fan of Barrie's original Pan, and inconsistencies and the ways modern adaptations/sequels/prequels can skew the original concept usually bug me. It's easy to be put off by the premise of Peter growing up. Of course he would never grow up to be a stuffy businessman! Even so, I can't help but like this movie to some extent. This may sound kind of cheesy, but they way I've come to regard it is not so much as a literal "when Peter grew up" story, but kind of more metaphorical... playing towards the idea that we all have a bit of Pan-ness in us, finding your inner child etc etc. Does that make sense? Maybe I just say that to justify not completly hating it, lol. It's not the best movie out there, but there's no denying it's a fun one.
