VHS : If Tomorrow Comes
This movie to my surprise is very very good. I rarly can watch a mini-series without dozing off, but this one had me glued to my tv for about 4 hours, or more. This is a great movie, if your lucky enough to find this movie, even if its on VHS, GET IT.

When we viewed this movie on TV, it did not contain profanity. We purchased it because it was so funny, and we wanted to share it with our grandchildren. That will not happen. Your review should have stated not appropriate for children because of language.

VHS : Urban Cowboy
I realize that Travolta was at the height of his stardom and Winger was an up-and-coming and talented actress. I also realize that the honky-tonk mechanical bull-riding mentality had its season of popularity.

Even so, it is horrifying to me that a popular cable station describes Bud as a "good old boy" when he hit Sissy twice. One abusive incident would have been enough to cost this character the "good" label.

In short, Sissy goes from the abusive Bud to the abusive "real cowboy", then back to the abusive Bud. It is rather bizarre that Bud gets angry and outraged over somebody ELSE hitting Sissy, although he does not seem to have a problem doing it himself! What an awful example to put out there for young girls to see.

Despite the star power and the short ... Read More

VHS : Sadat
Made less than two years after Sadat's assassination, the movie makes him out to be a saint. Sadat was no saint, he was a man and he had his faults like any other.

The movie compresses many events in Sadat's life. It appears that both prison sentences he served early in his life are portrayed as a single event. Also, his role in the pro-Nazi Free Officers is not discussed at all, nor would you know that Sadat was jailed while Britain and the Allies were fighting for their lives when Sadat started trying to undermine them.

Given the circumspect nature of the film many key events, formation of the United Arab Republic, Egyptian involvement in Yemen, the War of Attrition etc. are not discussed. However, the film does attempt to convey the byzantine nature of military politics ... Read More

This is an amusing comedy about how many neighborhoods use to be in NYC. Although there are many stereotypes, much of the characters and atmosphere rings true. People seeing this film back in the early 1990s still had many reasons to fear NYC. Having resided all my life in NYC I know what the movie is trying to show here. Many neighborhoods in Manhatten, as well as the adjacent boroughs were mostly slums in the 1970s, 80s and well into the early 90s. A variety of circumstances over the years had placed low income people into cheap housing with repacious landlords. The end result were horrific ghettos which were virtual war zones to live in.

The ironic thing today in watching this film is how we have traded in the urban ghetto for Starbucks! NYC rents were affordable when ... Read More

VHS : Ernie Kovacs - Between the Laughter
Even though I like Jeff Goldblum he is not Ernie Kovacs. I think they could have found a different and better actor to play him.

I guess it is ok but I've seen much better true story movies.

This movie is NOT at all what you may be thinking it is about. It isn't about fast planes( the digital sound does not enhance the story, this is not a story about SR-71s!) and it isn't about war or secret missions, or cool spy stuff. This movie is a philosophical movie(and not even that!), but I won't tell you more or I'll give it away. Its a fairly good movie - not too deep, but it will stay in your mind. Elizondo is excellent in this piece, a very likable guy. That's about it.

This is one of my favorite romantic movies. Perhaps it does depart from the actual history, but the embellishment is much more entertaining. I could never understand why this movie was not better known, except for its made-for-tv status. Christopher Reeve is very appealing as the founder of the famous security firm. The late Carrie Snodgrass is excellent as Pinkerton's wife.
