I never watched this when it came out in the early 90's, but had heard about it. It was wonderfully done, Daniel Day-Lewis was mesmerizing, and I was struck at how it did not feel the least bit dated. I did not read the book, so can't compare, but for a movie, this had much "edge of your seat" action, romance (not overdone or oversexual), and beauty. And yes, DDL running through the woods makes for some rewinding and replaying!

Again, another classic movie that will be around for a while. It's touching, real and gives personal insight into the lives of the people portrayed in this based- on true life movie. Excellent war movie and a must-see for people that like war movies.

this is a great movie. it's about Charles "Lucky" Luciano working his way up from the very beginning, through Prohibition, and all the way to the top. the movie stops after "Lucky" survives his 'One-Way-Ride'. A Must Buy Movie.[....]

Rick Ramage has written a nice and tidy little screenplay in THE PROPOSITION. Much like his other works in STIGMATA and HAUNTED, again the Roman Catholic Church plays a significant role in the unfolding of unusual and sometimes quite comical events in the lives of the wealthy Arthur and Eleanor Barret and a certain Roger Martin and Father Michael McKinnan.These four unlikely characters mix in a pre WW2 triste that includes God,lust and murder.Throw in the mysterious housekeeper and you have a quite interesting scenario that at times plays like a daytime soap opera, at times like a French farce and at times like a murder mystery. Garcia, Madeline Stowe and David Carradine are outstanding in here, but Carradine as drug lord? With his reported past problems? Risky...Comes off well but too short and too concise. Modest budget at least didn't hurt here. Look for Stowe in 'Last of The Mohicans', too!
