VHS : Mindwalk
This VHS production of Mindwalk is a great film if you consider yourself a thinker. It follows the conversation of three characters as they discuss the composition of the universe and its implications from the perspectives of a scientist, a politician, and an artist. If you're not the cerebral type and prefer an action movie with a lead character that saves the day by the end of the movie, this film is not for you. But if you're susceptible to deep conversations about life and the operating principles surrounding it, then you might find this film to be quite a trip!

Nice reproduction. It was originally filmed in great quality. Not real sure if the Blue-ray version is that much better. I viewed it on a 720p 42" LCD. But the price made it worth it.

This is the most touching and inspirational movie. The fact that is based on true facts makes it even more powerful.I can't wait to see it produced on DVD. I have being looking for it on DVD for a long time. I am a Psychologist, and MFT and this is a movie that I would recommend to all my patients to see. "I believe that it does not matter what life brings us, it is up to us to overcome adversity. We have the freedom in our will to choose not to be miserable by being in the presence of the absence, and to do the best of what we have."

Two beautiful actresses, almost identical in their physical appearance, bettle it out on screen. Liv Ullman plays an actress, Elizabeth, who during stage play goes silent (probably every director's nightmare). There is nothing wrong with her physically or empotionally according to the doctor, so she is assigned a young nurse Alma (Bibi Anderson) to take care of her. There is no need for them to stay in the hospital, so doctor let's them use her summer house in hopes that fresh air and rest will aid patient's recovery from the unexplainable illness. As two women settle in house, it is amazing to see them interact in spite of the fact that Elizabeth does not speak at all and the young nurse is doing all the talking. As the time goes by, it is the young nurse who opens herself up bare to her silent companion. ... Read More

VHS : The Night Visitor
Filmed in Scandinavia, Max Von Sydow, Per Oscarsson, and Liv Ullman are first rate in this psychological thriller.

During this time The Emigrants, Scenes from a Marriage, The New Land and other Nordic pictures took center stage above the Night Visitor. Although the aforementioned 3 occupy the absolute elite of all-time Nordic cinema, The Night Visitor is well worth watching and an interesting departure from stereotypical Scandinavian pictures.

The ending of this movie is great. Watch until the end.

VHS : Serpent's Egg
When Ingmar Bergman was in self-imposed exile from Sweden, in the late 1970s, over a flap where he was accused by the Swedish government of tax evasion, he made several films abroad. One of them was The Serpent's Egg (Das Schlangenei-Örmens ägg), an English language film (his second- The Touch was the first) made in 1978, in West Berlin studios, for legendary film producer Dino de Laurentiis, who was reeling from the financial disaster that was his 1976 remake of King Kong. This film did nothing to change the producer's fortunes, as it is easily the worst Bergman film I've yet seen. This is a reputation that most other critics agree with, as well. That said, it is not realy a bad film- merely a muddled and poorly edited one, and by Hollywood's dim standards, especially considering this is a horror film, it is quite ... Read More

VHS : Scenes from a Marriage
Leo Tolstoy once opined that all happy families are happy in but a few ways, while those that are not suffer in many unique ways. This apothegm was never more well evinced than in filmmaker Ingmar Bergman's five hour 1973 Swedish telefilm Scenes From A Marriage (Scener ur ett aktenskap), a miniseries that was even more influential in Europe than the American television miniseries Roots, which captivated American audiences only a few years later. Bergman's miniseries was repackaged for foreign markets into a 169 minute film version that, in 1974, was almost universally lauded by critics in America. Although, because it started out as a tv show, it was ineligible for Oscar consideration in America, it did win the National Society Of Film Critics Award for Best Picture, and, in 1977, PBS aired the entire uncut series. In many ways, ... Read More
