VHS : Separate But Equal
SEPARATE BUT EQUAL (1991-PG) is one of my favorite movies. Nominated for seven Emmy Awards. It is about the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court Case. Starring Sidney Poitier as Thurgood Marshall, the lead attorney for the NAACP, Burt Lancaster, as John W. Davis, arguing the other side, and Richard Kiley, as Chief Justice Earl Warren, it is a powerful story about one of the most important Supreme Court Decisions in the history of our country. The first half is set in South Carolina and depicts the human side of that tragic law called 'separate but equal'. They were separate but anything BUT equal. The second half is the legal battle. My only comment would be that this should be REQUIRED WATCHING to understand the background of the civil rights' movement and the racial situation in ... Read More

VHS : Little Big Man
Dustin Hoffman is great in this classic Western. It's one of the best Westerns out there. Hoffman plays a cavalry man who ends up living among the Native Americans. It's a bitter story of how poorly and unjustly were these people treated. Unfortunately, they're not faring much better today and the government does not treat them better either. There are some truths in this movie that we're still not willing to face and come to grips with today. This should be a required material for school kids and grown ups alike. We'd be much more grateful for what we have instead of complaining for what we can't buy if we thought about these things more.

VHS : Blazing Saddles - Special Edition
Blazing Saddles is such a classic. From "candygram for Mongo!" to "it's twoo! it's twoo!" it's nonstop laughs.

To save money, the railroad needs to go through the town of Rock Ridge, and governor's right-hand man, Hedley--not Hedy!--Lamarr (Harvey Kormann) come up with a solution to get the residents to leave: hire a black sheriff (Cleavon Little).

When Bart (Little) gets to his office, he discovers the Waco Kid (Gene Wilder) sleeping off a drunk in his cell. They become friends and allies and save the day.

Brooks doesn't miss a trick with the humor, which, despite the famous campfire farting scene (which I saw once inexplicably edited for television as burping), is both sillier and smarter than most modern over-the-top comedies. I think it's because the jokes are all ... Read More

VHS : Happy Birthday Bugs: 50 Looney Years
With the Looney Tunes DVD sets containing a number of TV specials ranging from original cartoons to anniversary celebrations, there is a possibility that this might show up on a future volume. If it does, focus on the quality theatrical cartoons instead of attempting to slog through this non-stop fluff piece that is so outdated, it makes Samurai Pizza Cats seem culturally relevant. In simpler words: don't watch it.

No Looney Tune or Merrie Melodie cartoon, not even any of the Censored Eleven, has dated as badly as this. This is fluff, whole fluff and nothing but fluff. How, you ask? Simple: it's another one of those specials that features celebrities talking about Bugs, and references to talk shows that millions of idiots watched in 1990, but have now turned to tripe like CSI and American Idol. Want to ... Read More

The movie [was weak], but Dennis Hooper's performance is just plain awesome. The only reason I liked to watch the film... :-). No but seriously, vintage Hooper at his best in the film is only reason to buy it, I couldn't stop laughing at some of the scene Hopper did....
