I love this movie,is one of tom cruise best films,i was realy surprised that some people call this film trash,i wonder what see now when almost everything aut there is realy trash.Hollywood in the 80s was not a factory,like it is now.

Life is all about miracles like the one in this movie. I don't think we even realize they are happening. But sometimes, as for Dr. Darrow, we do get hit over the head. I loved this movie because it is not over the top supernatural. This is real stuff - moving gently beside us at times. Of course, Darrow got a real dose but it was necessary for him to listen. Life is magic, sometimes coming at us with a force we cannot control. Yet, this was still only a light paranormal glued together with depth. Kevin Costner was brilliant. Kathy Bates, she could act in my movie anytime if they ever make my novel into a movie. That too is a light supernatural. tom berenger brings great strenth to this role and this film about a little known sect of the morman faith, the danites,or avenging angels,as they were called. these men were recruited and trained as bodyguards for brigham young and as protecters of the mormans against the pursecuters of their faith. as miles utley,berenger is great and really draws you into the plot. iseems that to some mr. utley does his job to well and they want him banished,as this is going on he discovers a plot to kill brigham young(played flawlessly by screen great charlton heston)and sets out to stop it. along for the ride is james coburn as utley's friend and mentor! the whole thing is great western fun and action packed! so sit back and enjoy this fun and exciteing movie!

Okay, so the budget is lower than the average weekly family shop. The special effects aren't! BUT...if you loved Dr Who and the wobbly sets and ridiculous monsters, this is a hoot. The cast give it their best shot and it's kind of compulsive viewing. For those of us who are more than a little jaded from vast SFX budgets this is a refreshing change.

I saw this movie a long time ago and still remember the intriguing storyline, the outstanding acting and the desire to watch it again. I have been trying to locate this movie for some time but has not been able to find it readily on a medium compatable to NTSC. I am still waiting, hoping and searching.

THE PRESENCE is a 1992 tv-pilot for NBC that never sold; watching it you can see why. A typically stereotypical group of survivors end up on a deserted (not really, though) island which once housed a facility where genetic breeding was conducted. In the mishmash of the plot, one never knows what really happened, and by its "open ending", you can see how it would have been a series. The cast is wasted, with only flashes of talent from Gary Graham and Joe Lara. Otherwise, its effects are mundane and its suspense level virtually non-existent.
