Sure, there are the classics like CINDERELLA and SLEEPING BEAUTY. There are Pixar marvels like WALL-E and FINDING NEMO (which I adore). But for me, the real golden age of Disney came during the time when Alan Menken made animated musicals. POCHAHONTAS, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE LITTLE MERMAID, and ALADDIN are some. These are the real Disney classics.

I recieved this as an unexpected Christmas present several years ago, and was pleasantly surprised. I watched the film and the special features. They impressed me beyond compare. Besides the glorious film itself, the special features are some of the very best I've seen, and that's saying a lot. THREE WISHES, the comprehensive making-of documentary, is a joy to watch. The cartoon of the Genie's round-the-world vacation is short ... Read More

VHS : Aladdin & King of Thieves
The big day has finally arrived. The entire kingdom has turned out for Aladdin (Scott Weinger) and Jasmine's (Linda Larkin) wedding. Thanks to the Genie (Robin Williams), it looks to be a spectacular day.

But then tragedy strikes. The 40 Thieves attack the wedding and try to steal just one present. Yes, that's right. But that present turns out to be an oracle that will answer one question. And through that oracle, Aladdin learns that his father is still alive.

What he doesn't realize is that his father, Cassim (John Rhys-Davies), is the leader of the thieves. The family reunion pits Aladdin against Sa'luk (Jerry Orbach) who isn't happy with the way that Cassim has been running the gang. How will Jasmine react to the identity of Aladdin's father? Can Aladdin reform ... Read More

VHS : Return of Jafar
Aladdin's (Scott Weinger) life is going well. Living in the palace suits him, and he has turned his skills as a thief into a Robin Hood act.

Unfortunately, things are about to get messy. Jafar (Jonathan Freeman) and Iago (Gilbert Gottfried) have managed to get out of the Cave of Wonders. Jafar has one thing on his mind, revenge, and he wants to get back to Agrabah as quickly as possible. His luck improves when his lamp falls into the hands of Abis Mal, the thief (Jason Alexander).

Iago wants to get back into the palace himself. When he accidentally gets on Aladdin's good side, things seem to be going well. But then Jafar shows up. Whose side is Iago really on? And is there a way to fight an all powerful genie?

This was the beginning of Disney's direct to video sequels. ... Read More

A typical Aladdin series selection, these two episodes are taken straight from the series. If you watch it on TV, these will not be new to you, but for the dedicated fan, they are the first two episodes with Mozenrath and Nefir. They are good episodes, although not the best, but still worth the money if you will watch them a few times. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't pay for the video if it was over, say, about $18.

This is a great video for Aladdin fans of all ages. It is exciting, adventurous, and heroic. It is a wonderful video, teaching about the values of giving credit others deserve, keeping your promises, and that you can decide your fate (it isn't preprogrammed for you). The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because there are two episodes on this tape, and only one of them involves the Pincess Jasmine.

...I just don't care for this production as much. I do give in props from being a stunning visual spectacle, but that's just about it. I wanted a little more depth and I found Edward and Kim's love story too weak by half. The suburbanites were funny and how society tends to lift things up only to tear them down was a nice touch. Still, overall I thought it was just okay.

This excellent movie is very good. It has two episodes about Genie. The episodes are "Sneeze The Day" and "Genie Hunt". PLEASE don't mixed up with "Genie Hunt" and "The Hunted". Worth the money if you want to watch it a couple of times.

I like this movie because it has one of my favorite episodes in it. One about Abu and one about Iago. If you like these sidekicks, buy this movie.
