1.A Mother's Prayer starring: Linda Hamilton, Noah Fleiss, Bruce Dern, Kate Nelligan, RuPaul

VHS : A Mother's Prayer
A MOTHER'S PRAYER is an uncompromising portrait of a mother, and son dealing with AIDS. Linda Hamilton as Rosemary Holmstrom is, quite simply, phenomenal in this film. Noah Fleiss as her eight-year-old son, T.J., is not far behind. In fact the acting is first-rate by the entire cast.

In this heartwrenching story of a woman trying to find a family to adopt her son, no punches are pulled. Rose is a working mother who must not only find the courage to deal with her own death, but find a suitable family to raise her son- a task she refuses to leave up to child welfare, or the equally sad adoption agencies.

A MOTHER'S PRAYER is a tremendously moving film, and should not be missed.

TAG: The Assassination Game (Nick Castle, 1982)

Nick Castle's first big-screen project was quite the indicator of things to come. TAG, underground cult success that it was, propelled Castle into the big time, directing such deathless fare as... erm, well, Tap. And Major Payne. (And those were the good movies.) But TAG was a staple of my formative years, and I hadn't seen it in about two decades, though I still had that "ah... she's a PSYCHOLOGY major!" line get stuck in my head now and again. So I decided I'd give it a whirl and see if it held up to the nostalgia in my head.

Simply put, the answer is no, and it's "no" with extreme prejudice. To be blunt, this is an awful, awful movie. Unlike such other eighties cult favorites as Night of the Creeps, TAG has aged as ... Read More

VHS : Shadow Conspiracy
This is a great movie if you like political intrigue, action and suspense, and if you're a fan of Donald Sutherland and Charlie Sheen. This movie is almost more relevant today than it was when it was made. Great cast and attention-getting, creative plot, with its fair share of twists and turns. If you've never seen this movie, you should!

VHS : Good Neighbor Sam
GOOD NEIGHBOR Sam is a strangely neglected American sex comedy of the 1960s, with Jack Lemmon, an actor I otherwise can do without, but here he strikes me as an accomplished farceur with more bite to him than most male stars of his day. He has attitude; he might have appeared in ZOOLANDER with that edge. Here he was a fairly good part as a sculptor who works during the day way down the ladder at a San Francisco ad agency--it's a very MAD MEN office, but more authentic in some ways, and the scenes of the admen exchanging dispirited glances at their busty, uninterested secretarial staff has the MAD MEN motif down pat. I suppose casting Lemmon in this part must have been a calculated move on the parts of the producers to recall his work in Billy Wilder's famous film of THE APARTMENT, but kick me ... Read More

VHS : Color of Courage
The Color of Courage covers the relationships between a white family and a black family. Linda Hamilton is wonderful as the obedient, quiet, and bored housewife who shyly reaches out to welcome her new neighbor (Lynn whitefield, who is very effective as the woman who dreams of her own home in a sweet neighborhood). The relationship between Linda Hamilton and her husband (played by Bruce Greenwood) suffers as a result of her friendship; he is anxious to be accepted as part of the neighborhood of shallow, click-ish bigots, but is finally brought around by his wife's devotion to the black family and her quiet disappointment in his support of the bigotry. In one wonderful, pivotal scene, after his neighbors have manipulated him to use his name in a lawsuit to force the black family out, the leaders ... Read More

VHS : Children of the Corn
This film is an absolute classic. I've seen this film numerous times and I never get tired of it. Both Courtney Gains (Malichi) and John Franklin (Issac) are great actors who should have won awards for their performances. On top of the acting, my copy of this film is autographed by the music composer, who is also my science teacher's husband. So that fact alone make this film extra special to watch.

VHS : The Terminator
I think it's safe to say that you aren't watching an Arnold movie for the acting, right? You want to see things blow up and people get shot, right? Well, if that is what you are looking for than this is probably the best way to get that fix. `The Terminator' is one of those cult films that every `guy' in America, and quite possibly all over the world, has seen and has loved. I personally saw it for the first time about a month ago.

What...a whirlwind.

I was totally in the dark going in, so the fact that Arnold actually plays a bad guy was like a big "whoa" moment for me, but whatever, I'm in the minority and I accept that.

The film takes place in the present (well, the 80's) but the real story is what happen in the future, the year 2029 to be exact. The world is overrun ... Read More

VHS : Zorro's Black Whip
Just be aware that this has absolutely nothing to do with the Zorro character. Not only is Zorro not present, he isn't even mentioned. They really should have called it "The Black Whip," but apparently they wanted the name recongition for the box office.

That said, it's a terrific Western. The Black Whip is a black-costumed vigilante who's talented with a whip and rides madly around saving people in the nick of time--more reminiscent of the Durango Kid than of Zorro. The Black Whip is a woman, no less, but no one realizes it. This is the only serial you'll ever see where the hero gets killed in the first chapter! He's immediately replaced by his sister, who seeks revenge.

While William Witney was away in the service during World War II, Spencer Bennet and Wallace Grissell did a good job of keeping ... Read More
