VHS : Life Is Beautiful
Life is indeed beautiful and this wonderful movie by Roberto Begnini makes us stop to think about it, to admire it, to enjoy it, to love it, to come to the conclusion that, no matter how hard it is sometimes, it's always worth it! From my point of view, the core message of this masterpiece is the selfless love. Whenever we feel this kind of love, we will see that nothing else matters. We will have accomplished the highest goal a human being can be assigned to. That's also GOD's message for us and, amidst laughter, smiles, humor and tenderness, Roberto Begnini leads our thoughts to same conclusion. Watch it because you won't regret!

VHS : Life Is Beautiful (English Version)
This is one of the best and most creative films ever made. Totally inventive in concept, the story revolves around an exuberant and romantic Italian man named Guido, who also happens to be Jewish. He sweeps the woman of his dreams, his "Principessa", off her feet. They marry and have an adorable little boy whom they dearly love. Unfortunately, this all happens during World War II in fascist Italy.

Ultimately, Guido and their son are whisked away to a concentration/work camp on their young son's birthday. Meanwhile, his wife and the boy's mother, coming home and expecting to find a birthday celebration in progress, discovers, instead, that the inevitable has occurred. She tracks them down to the train that is taking prisoners to a work camp and, after confirming that they are on board, ... Read More

The Italian film "Open Doors" is set in 1937 Fascist Italy. A minor government official, Tommaso Scalia is sacked for embezzling funds. He retaliates by murdering his former boss, the man who replaced him, and then rapes and murders his own wife. Following the bloodshed, Scalia returns home to his young son, lies down on the bed, and waits to be arrested.

Judges are rounded up for the trial, and they are pressured to hand down a guilty verdict which is to be followed by execution. Even Scalia demands the death penalty, and the trial begins with a heated political statement from Scalia to the courtroom. One judge, Vito Di Francesco does not bend to the pressure of public opinion but quietly and stubbornly insists on conducting a through trial.

While the film attempts to deal ... Read More

VHS : The Trojan Horse
Wow. Somebody seemed to have it in for Paris and Helen, the noble hero and heroine of HELEN OF TROY and even of the recent, and badly rewritten (or re-imagined), TROY. In this Italian film, THE TROJAN HORSE, Paris is a vane, power-mad prince who seems too effeminate to have attracted someone as beautiful as Helen, a conniving adultress with no qualms about the ten-year war she has started.

Unlike THE FURY OF ACHILLES, which follows Homer's THE ILIAD quite faithfully, this film is about the famous Trojan Horse and the character of Aeneas found in THE AENEID. Achilles is shown to be much older than he is in THE FURY OF ACHILLES, but the story begins almost where THE FURY OF ACHILLES leaves off - with Hector's body being dragged behind the chariot of Achilles. Aeneas is portrayed by the muscular ... Read More

Glad to see that the Reeves movies are coming out on dvd. Hercules/Hercules Unchained were the only Herc films starring Reeves and produced by the late, great Joseph E. Levine and costarring the beautiul Sylvia Koscina. These films have a nice musical scoreand good cinematogrophy. Reeves looks like a Greek God with both physique and handsome good looks. These are movies that are fun to watch but won't test your mental muscles. In any event, I rated them both a five and feel that they are worth your time to watch and add to your dvd collection.

I had seen this movie a number of times on tv...It is a few different stories...I love the old B-movie scary, vampire legends...only when I viewed the movie on tv, it was dubbed in english...I had no idea this would be in Italian with subtitles...disappointed with that...I really think the voice of Boris makes the whole vampire story stand out...oh well...thumbs down on this version....
