Two hours of my time were wasted by watching this dreary film. I kept hoping it would get better, but no. It's relentlessly cruel, achingly futile and supremely depressing. Not even it's two very talented stars could elevate this material. Watch anything else!

VHS : First Knight
After the brutal first few minutes of the film, I thought it was going to be a more realistic telling of the Arthurian legend; it turned out to be quite the opposite, but I still enjoyed it.

The Good: The (unrequited) love between Lancelot and Guinevere is more understandable given that Arthur is depicted as being a contemporary of Guinevere's father, and easily old enough to be her father, if not her grandfather, whereas Lancelot is young and very heroic and dashing. Even so, there is genuine affection between Arthur and Guinevere, and she never breaks her marriage vows, either during the betrothal or during the marriage. I also like the way Lancelot is depicted. He is more human; he is not the font of virtue he is depicted as in other versions of the legend. His association ... Read More

VHS : When the Sky Falls
25 minutes into this film I began to wonder why I was watching this film. Like many here, I had seen the film "Veronica Guerin" & chose to view "When the Sky Falls" so as to compare the two. The reason that there are two versions is that the latter film (finally made in 2000) got the go ahead while the real-life journalist Veronica Guerin was still alive; with her permission under the proviso that all names would be changed and that her story would be fictionalized to a certain extent as well. That the real Veronica Guerin was murdered in the interm doesn't seem to have changed anything regarding "When the Sky Falls." The film "Veronica Guerin," in contradistinction, is more a biopic done wth panache; a captivating biopic of this woman's exploits in exposing the criminal underworld in Dublin. It thus ... This movie has some violence in it so you should be cautious about young children seeing it. Otherwise it is a heartwarming story of servival based on Swiss Family Robinson.

DVD - Shooting the Past
I had seen this on Masterpiece Theatre in the past and wanted it for my own collection. It's a spell-binding story and well executed.

VHS : A Little Princess
Magical and delightful and uplifting. I don't really have much to say in addition to what others have said, but I figured I'd weigh in with some stars to counter the 1 star people. They may be more devoted to the text of the book than the rest of us. I come to the film simply as appreciating whether it's a good movie as a movie, and it is. Much preferable to the other A Little Princess movie (although my wife disagrees).

VHS : Dog Soldiers
Dog Soldiers redefines the suspense/horror genre with British "squadies" practicing war games in the forests of Scotland. All is not as it seems as they discover the opposing squad violently slaughtered, all except for the commander...the only survivor. They find themselves holed up in a cottage with a seemingly helpful young woman. Things go from surreal to utterly terrifying with tons of twists and turns...a must for the suspense-horror enthusiast!

RARELY WILL I EVER SAY THAT 5*s ARE NOT ENOUGH TO AWARD A FILM!!! Well..now I have said it!!!...MORE THAN 5*s!!!
The true story of Sheila and Sean Cloney in 1950's Ireland is a story of love tested under the greatest of odds. This young and much in love couple make four marriage vows:first ,secretly before the Justice of the Peace, then in Sheila's sparcely congregated Protestant Church, next In Sean's dominant village Catholic Church and then finally a private vow strictly between the two of them that was agreed upon to be the MOST binding-their love and right to decide above any other clamour.Life was idyllic in their village.Everyone of all faiths, and even of NO faith peacefully coexisted.BUT DID THEY?When it comes time to send one of their children to school, the Catholic Priest,Father Stratton, insists that it is the ...
