After seeing a revival of Carnival at the Kennedy Center about two years ago, I wanted to see this. When I found a used copy recently, I was disturbed. The story focuses on a woman who borders on social retardation and a man who loves her who is emotional abusive unless he's using his puppets to communicate emotion. Hmmm. Worth watching, but what it says about gender roles in mid-century America is just downright disturbing.

This is my hands down favorite translation of the Cinderella fairytale I have ever seen put on film! I only wish they would put it on DVD. VHS is such and outdated format and it's hard to come by a good VCR that can properly play older tapes. And the cost of owning these hard to find gems is ridiculous. Why wouldn't a company want to turn a dollar on a classic movie? Leslie Caron is a delightful Cinderella and the "Fairy Godmother" is a hoot! The dance sequences are breathtaking and brilliantly executed. The film is a treasure!!

I never read the book so I cannot compare, but the movie (in 2 parts) is excellent. Carsten Norgaard is amazing (and quite the handsome man), and Nastassja Kinski is perfect in her role.

Light-hearted, yet philosophical and with a spark of "danger"
thrown in at just the right times.
Brilliant role by Cary Grant, with his classic expressions, and
subtle moves. Just a great sit-back-and-enjoy movie.

I received the DVD The Last of the Blonde Bombshells as a gift and since have ordered 2 as gifts. The response has been terrific! You don't have to be a Judi Dench fan to thoroughly enjoy this delightful period story.

Daddy Long Legs This is a very romantic story based on a book written in the 20s or 30s--Fred Astaire is perfect in the role of an "invisible" benefactor of Leslie Caron. If you are an "old movie buff", this one will please you!

I first saw this picture in the seventies probably on TV. It haunted me for years trying to remember the title. So when I happened across it on TCM I was delighted and ordered it right away. It was just as I remembered it. A sweet and simple love story between a young girl and a young man who wanted more in his life. Of course the young girl lets him go and he finds that life outside of his hometown isn't as exciting as he had pictured. The characters are very young and make mistakes but the simplicity in their actions and hearts keeps you rooting for them. And as in most old movies there is a happy ending! I still love this movie. It makes me smile!
