VHS : Rebecca
Great movie adaptation of Daphne du Maurier novel, funny at times, but tragic and surreal. This is the kind of movie Hollywood forgot how to make a long time ago, where you can just get caught up in a mesmerizing story. I can't think of another story where an unseen character plays a more important role.

2.Our Little Girl (1935) starring: Shirley Temple, Rosemary Ames, Joel McCrea, Lyle Talbot, Erin O'Brien-Moore

VHS : Our Little Girl (1935)
This movie is very different from a usual Shirley Temple movie. But she is still so very cute. If youre a big Shirley Temple fan like me than you must buy this and if you dont like Shirley Temple (which is impossible) then dont buy it. It is a sweet movie and it is very enjoyable. Although there is only one song and no dancing. I gave it three stars because it has Shirley Temple and because it made me smile!

VHS : Bombshell
At a time when Hollywood actresses are flying about the third world in search of adorable photogenic orphans, this pre-Code screwball comedy is more relevant than ever. Jean Harlow shows surprising comic depth as a peroxide blonde actress suddenly struck with the desire to adopt a baby. And what a supporting cast: Louise Beavers, Frank Morgan (the Wizard of Oz in, you know), Una Merkel (W.C Fields' daughter in the Bank Dick), Ted Healy (of Ted Healy and his [3]Stooges), C. Aubrey Smith, Pat O'Brien, and Dorothy DeBorba (from the Our Gang series). Needs to be released on DVD immediately.

This is a very sweet Cary Grant and Irene Dunne comedy. A couple with differences decide to divorce but can't seem to get it through their heads that their marriage will be ending. Lots of fun.

VHS : Great Locomotive Chase
"The Great Locomotive Chase" tells the story of the Andrews Raid behind Confederate lines during the Civil War. Fess Parker plays the leader of the Union agents whose mission is to steal a train and cut a key Confederate rail line in Georgia. The Southern railroad honcho who tries foiling Andrews is Jeffrey Hunter. GLC was his next role after playing John Wayne's "nephew" in John Ford's western classic "The Searchers". (Trivia: Who played his girlfriend in the movie?) This reviewer believes JH far outshines Parker and the rest of the cast. The action is constant here as Hunter's train relentlessly pursues Andrews and his men. Railfans (not "train buffs"!) will love the switching of cars, setting of sidings and stoking the fires on the fine old cars provided by the B&O RR Museum in Baltimore. Smell that coal, ... Devon Miles (Nick Cannon) is a drum prodigy, a talent so profound he managed to receive a drum scholarship to Atlanta A&T, a school with a powerful band led by Dr. Lee (Orlando Jones), a band director who believes in the structure and beauty of old-school music. In other words, Dr. Lee takes music seriously. Too bad Devon doesn't.

Unfortunately, Devon is anything but a team-player, butting heads with Sean Taylor (Leonard Roberts), Section Leader of the Drumline. Despite his unquestionable musical ability, it doesn't take long to learn that Devon is a rebellious malcontent, an arrogant show-off, and an individual amongst the team concept. On top of that, he's a fraud and a liar - something clear because of the fact that a term of his scholarship offer was the ability to read music, something Devon can't do. ... Read More

VHS : Last of Mrs Cheyney (1937)
Character superstar Jessie Ralph steals the show in this otherwise stilted film version of a theatrical hit. So many of the great early 20th Century plays, translated into films (mostly by MGM!) stand up even today but unfortunately this isn't one of them... Perhaps it's the iconic Joan Crawford's presence...she's at the height of her haute-phoniness in this one, although she LOOKS spectacular.

William Powell must have been fulfilling contractual obligations for appearing in this one...he's completely wasted.

This film belongs to the character actors who comprise its supporting cast...notably the aforementioned Ralph and Nigel Bruce & Frank Morgan.

Worth seeing as a time capsule of legendary silver screen personalities...otherwise forgettable.
