VHS : Girl Getters
This film is a work of art captured from Britain's 1960's. The film qality is good, despite being filmed in monochrome. The direction by Michael Winner typifies his work with Oliver Reed and has encapsulated an array of talent including the gorgeous young Jane Merrow. Generally a good cast supported with a decent storyline. It's a pity that this is not available on DVD? Despite this, a must for those of us that see nostalgia as a method of relaxation!

VHS : Hands of the Ripper
Hands of the Ripper is a shockingly neglected and obscure little atmospheric masterpiece from Hammer Studios. It's a veritable showcase of classic horror at its best, with several somewhat bloody scenes thrown in for good measure. Beautifully shot and scored, the film simply oozes the aura of Victorian London, and the cinematography of the final shot is, ahem, to die for. The entire cast is wonderful, particularly Eric Porter and Angharad Rees, the latter being a delightful young actress I had never encountered before.

I know you're probably wondering if the film is about Jack the Ripper. Well, yes and no. The story is ostensibly about his daughter. You can imagine how screwed up in the head a daughter of Saucy Jack might be; now imagine that this little girl saw her father murder ... Read More

VHS : The Appointment
Lindsey Vickers, who scripts and directs this enigmatic film, offers a viewer just enough information to raise questions, at the same time presenting enough plums in the pudding to warrant an alert audience wishing for answers in return, but providentially style triumphs over substance. Vickers constructs an unquestionably suspenseful tale of predestination that revolves about a talented young violinist who manifestly possesses significant preternatural powers, more than sufficient to drastically affect those about her. Action opens with a three year flashback scene as we view a 12 year old girl carrying her casebound violin while walking from her school toward her home, traversing a secluded coppice, Crombie Wood, wherein she is suddenly seized (in a highly eerie scene) by a baleful force that slaughters ... The story is very true to the book, always a Good Thing to the readers who wish continuity. It would have been better with a "cast of thousands" for the actual battles, but budgets being what they are, ah well...
Amongst all the actors that could have been chosen, S.Bean does a magnificent job, even my wife likes the tales! I heartily recommend this title.
