I was a big fan of C&C, and their first two movies were some of the funniest of the era. Unfortunately, it appears the "empty suits" running the studios thought they could do humor better that Cheech and Chong.

This movie really proves that a central plot is vital for any film. Our boys find themselves in Amsterdam and basically are pushed through a series of disjointed sub-plots, actually sight gags, that are non-original and decidedly unfunny. Cheech and Chong are the funny elements in their movies; here, they are nothing but witnesses to silliness. The unconnected nature of the gags leave you wondering what the heck is going on.

Sad to say, the C&C heyday is over. Why take them out of So. California? ... Read More

Don't buy this movie thinking that it will be some real thriller with a lot of blood and guts. It was released by Pulsepounders, a Canadian film company which produces family film horror.

Thouroughly entrenched in the PG range, this is more Goosebumps than Scream and that's a good thing for parents with kids into the horror genre.

A teenage boy uses his wits and the support of his family to save his town from a coven of Vampires. The special effects aren't great, the costumes aren't either, but it serves its purpose of edge-of-the-seat, while at the same time still safe, entertainment a parent can safely let their child watch without worrying it will warp them.

"UNIVERSAL SOLDIER" WAS A WORLD-WIDE SMASH HIT,GROSSING OVER 100 MILLION DOLLARS WORLDWIDE,IT MAKES ME ASK,"WHY WOULD TWO SEQUELS TO "UNIVERSAL SOLDIER" COME OUT 6 YEARS LATER AND BE BACK TO BACK DIRECT-TO-VIDEO?".I SOON FOUND OUT THE ANSWER WHEN PURCHASING THIS VIDEO. THIS CHEAP EXCUSE FOR A FILM HAS ALMOST NO PLOT,NONE OF THE ORIGINAL STARS IN IT,THE ACTOR'S THAT TAKE THE PLACE OF THE ORIGINAL ACTOR'S LOOK NOTHING AT ALL LIKE THE ORIGINAL ACTOR'S,IT CLEARLY HAD A VERY LOW BUDGET,AND APPEARS TO BE SHOT BACK TO BACK WITH THE SECOND "UNIVERSAL SOLDIER" BECAUSE ALL OF THE CREDIT'S (EXCLUDING THE ACTOR'S)ON THE COVER OF 2 AND 3 ARE THE SAME. ALSO,BURT REYNOLDS MUST BE PRETTY DESPERATE FOR AN ACTING ROLE THESE DAYS TO STOOP DOWN TO A DIRECT TO VIDEO CHEAPIE TRYING TO CASH IN ON THE SUCESS ... Read More

VHS : Highwaymen
In the tradition of the '71 made-for-television classic `Duel', `Joy Ride' from `01 and numerous other road rage genre films the '04 film `Highwaymen' is a not too original but overall entertaining exercise in persistence, vengeance and the always enjoyable subject matter of vigilante justice.

The strongest draw to this movie is in the presence of James Caviezel and the stunning Rhona Mitraspect in the lead roles of two strangers thrown together on the California highways, one pursuing, the other begin pursued by a maniacal serial killer who wields his car as a weapon of destruction.

Conversely the main weaknesses I perceive in this production are; the lack of originality in the storyline and the fact that most of the car chase sequences take place in the darkness of night limiting ... Read More

There are two versions of this film. This version, directed by Robert Redford and starring Lou Diamond Phillips as Jim Chee and the PBS version with Adam Beach as Chee and Wes Studi as Leaphorn. What the author, Tony Hillerman, said about the actors in the making of "Coyote Waits" (one of the other PBS specials) was that Wes Studi was the man he saw as Leaphorn and he was beginning to see Jimmy Chee as a good deal more handsome after Adam Beach played him.

Well, I'm only seeing Adam Beach as Chee now, myself. And Fred Ward may be a good actor elsewhere, but Wes Studi's face was what I saw when I read Hillerman's novels, too.

The story in short. Jim Chee (Phillips) is a newly assigned cop to this beat of the Navajo-Hopi rez. His lieutenant Leaphorn (Ward) sets him on staking out the windmills ... Read More
