VHS : The Return of Martin Guerre
I saw this film on VHS back in college, and can't say its release on DVD does a lot in terms of enhancing the experience of seeing it again, but it's an interesting story: up to a point. I know it's based on an actual event but were this a novel it'd be one of those of which I'd say it would've made a far better short story.

The question of whether the man who returns home from war in the 16th century is actually the same long-lost Martin who left his family years before, or an imposter, is intriguing for those who may not be in the know, but the time in between the introduction of the mystery and the conclusion doesn't feature much in the way of goings on. I think this could have been a much better movie had there been a greater effort to show rural village life during this period, ... Read More

3.Three Colors: Blue starring: Juliette Binoche, Benoît Régent, Florence Pernel, Charlotte Véry, Hélène Vincent
directed by: Krzysztof Kieslowski
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Three Colors: Blue
Krzysztof Kieslowski was one of the more interesting filmmakers of the last quarter century, and the centerpiece of his claim to greatness is the Three Colors (Trois Couleurs) trilogy of films that he wrote and directed in the early to mid-1990s, filming them all at the same time. Blue, White, and Red represent the three colors of the French flag, and symbolize the three virtues of liberty, equality, and fraternity respectively. Blue (Bleu) is the first film in the series, and was released in 1993. The color blue also resonates for its associations with depression and coldness, that are well demonstrated in the film. It was deserving of the many award sit garnered, such as winning Best Film at the Venice Film Festival and the Goya Awards, as well as star Juliette Binoche (who looks like a prettier Julia Roberts, as ... 4.The Things of Life starring: Michel Piccoli, Romy Schneider, Gérard Lartigau, Jean Bouise, Boby Lapointe

VHS : The Things of Life

The first shot of the film shows us a pompous car accident in a marvelous slow motion sequence. And gradually through magnificent flashbacks, we will realize about the lives and time of this simple man, his love affairs through magnificent combination of lights where we can concatenate finely until his last suspire.

After you watch it, go for Intersection, and you will realize the difference.

A winner film of the prestigious prize Louis Delluc, 1970.

5.Subway (Dts) starring: Isabelle Adjani, Constantin Alexandrov, Jean-Hugues Anglade, Jean-Pierre Bacri, Jimmy Blanche

VHS : Subway (Dts)
This French film was the directorial debut for a then 26-year-old Luc Besson. Christopher Lambert and Isabelle Adjani are a surprise great match. It's both a romantic comedy and social satire over a group of vagabonds who live underground in the Paris metro system. There is more than one story with Adjani and Lambert tying in the characters. It is not clear what the "papers" are that Lambert has stolen from Adjani, which hints that its a ploy on both ends to spend time together.
