VHS : Night of the Hunter (1955)
Interesting, and somewhat engaging, but odd. Robert Mitchum's performance is over-the-top, the other performances are lackluster, except for the character of the older woman who takes the children in. Mitchum's role especially presages Robert De Niro in the reamke of Cape Fear.

When I got the tape it was in perfect condition. It also came with a bag of popcorn for the entertainment! I was very happy with my purchase since this was a movie that my sisters and I saw a long time ago and from the heavens above(my dad) we were able to come up with the name of the movie. Thanks

Keeping it short and simple- this was the one of the better Noirs. Charles McCraw is great as the cop trying to protect a lady on a train from one destination to another, but is he protecting the right woman? What I like about it for one thing is it a short movie running at fast paced 72 minutes, but the story and action is pretty tense and non-stop all the way through. Great dialog too, I couldn't help by laugh at times. Thoroughly entertaining with all sorts of twists and turns of characters., This had more twists than a pretzel. Between this movie, Clash by Night and Born to Kill, Warner's Film Noir Volume 3 from Warner is a must. This was the best Noir from Volume 3 to me. Just an amazing gem of a film

8.Golden Boy starring: Barbara Stanwyck, Adolphe Menjou, William Holden, Lee J. Cobb, Joseph Calleia

Stanwyck did approx 35 films during the 1930's, and many of the them are with Columbia, as she was shared with them and Warner Brothers. Sony, PLEASE get busy putting these films out on dvd, her fans deserve it and many other stars of the same period get much better treatment than she. I hope Amazon can pass the word onto the studios that not everyone wants to see the absolute dreck that is coming out of the studios today.

VHS : Talk of the Town
A man who escapes from jail just before his sentencing for arson and homicide hides from his pursuers with a beautiful landlady played by Jean Arthur. She has another border, a famous lawyer who fails to see the human side of the law and the consequences for the accused. Discussion about fairness and how guilt is determined make up a considerable amount of the dialogue here but it is hardly worthless. A good movie with a little food for thought.
