VHS : St. Helens
Take my word for it, I have not found any other movie whose content deals with the eruption of Mt St Helens except this one and thank god the late Art Carney was in this or it probably would have only gotten 3 stars from me just for the build up to the eruption alone but his comedic jabs at the right moments made it all the more enjoyable to watch. It's another one of those pictures thats based upon fact but no doubt has some fiction interwoven into it in some spots, it's not the best volcano movie I have seen but it is by far NOT THE WORST...I gave it 5 stars because I truly liked all 90 minutes of this movie.

A scientist (david Huffman) is called to the mountain after a series of earthquakes rock the region and after several readings and experiments determines that the mountain ... Read More

VHS : It's Always Fair Weather
It's Always Fair Weather was one of MGM's last musicals and re-teamed Cyd Charisse and Gene Kelly (they had already appeared in Brigadoon together and part of Singin' In the Rain). This is not your typical MGM musical.

The point of the story is three WWII friends, upon returning from the war, promise to meet again in ten years at the same place. Ten years pass and they all show up, but realize they have all changed and have nothing in common. On of the men (Dan Dailey) works for a TV show and Gene Kelly ends up falling in love with his beautiful co-worker Jackie (Cyd Charisse). The three friends, after helping each other out (and fighting) throughout the day, restore their friendship and go their own ways.
The highlight of the film (for me at least) is probably Cyd Charisse's ... Read More

THE PASSOVER PLOT
directed by Michael Campus
approximately 1 hour 45 minutes
based on the eponymous book by Hugh Schonfield

This is an interesting look at the crucifixion story in that it emphasizes the "Jewishness" of Jesus' followers. However Zalman King's portrayal of Jesus is somewhat erratic... he is either stone faced or he is screaming! Zalman is better known today for soft-core sexual movies in the Skin-o-max mold. Donald Pleasance (from the Halloween movies) does a pretty good job as Pontius Pilate though. Director Michael Campus is probably best known for the 1970s pimp movie THE MACK!

The movie takes us back to the first century and puts us right in the heart of the Jewish political underground. The more revolutionary Jews are shown as being ... Read More

VHS : VeggieTales - Madame Blueberry
Madame Blueberry is one of the earlier veggietales and it shows. Although this is a fairly entertaining episode and was the first to feature one of my favorite characters, a silly and vain little french Blueberry, the story is somewhat lacking. While on a buying spree at the local veggie Stuffmart, Madame learns that there are people who are grateful to God with no stuff at all. Then Madame wrecks her house by overbuying stuff and shares a meal with her less fortunate friends.

Not as creative as later veggietales and doesn't use an established bible story. The silly song is sweet, but the other two songs featured in the story are not great: one is a lackluster child's song about gratitude and the other is of the type I find questionable--a bunch of scallions singing about how important it is ... VHS : A Memory of Two Mondays (Broadway Theatre Archive)
Set in summer, 1933, in the depths of the Depression, Arthur Miller's most personal and intimate play focuses on the workers in a warehouse, a grim place in which men and women work for small wages and are grateful for the work. Appearing at the beginning of this production to set the scene, Miller observes that the Civil War and the Depression were the only times in American history in which the whole country was in the same boat-"You could not do a single thing that you wanted to do because no one had any money." The warehouse, he notes, became a grotesque sort of haven for the employees since they, at least, had jobs. Miller's own experience in a warehouse shows in his exceptionally realistic portrayal of the workers, men who often lose themselves in alcohol to escape reality, and women who must put ... Read More

I suppose they have to say something.

Right?
